I went out to just cut out the "few" preforms that I had drawn and well, I ended up cutting a bunch but for the amount of time it took, I should have gotten a lot more done! Some cut well, some didn't cooperate so they will have to be redrawn and ground down a bit. and here they are wet and the scraps and leftovers I have been in a picture jasper mood lately so that is a big part of the preforms but there is also some unikite, amazonite, chrysocola from Jamie and also some amy lace from Jamie. Peitersite from Tony and lots of picture jaspers from Tony and Sands. There is also some obsidian from Woody here. Thanks for looking! Fran

Dad gum, Fran! Wish you'd come cut some up for me! What you did in one day, is about a month's worth for me, on a good month! Nice looking cabs gonna come from that batch, for sure.

Awesome work Fran. I think I need to do that, so I don't go out to cut a cab and spend all my time wondering what to cut LOL!

I think I felt I didn't get so much done because so many are tiny. I have been trying to get some calibrated sizes for the earrings. I have purchased some findings for earrings/necklaces and some are as small as 6x8 mm. Man, that is tiny when you are trying to cut them all out and not hack them all up. I am going to have to get different nails with smaller heads to cab these on! I had a few break in half so they are in my tumbling box now. The larsonite split right as I was finishing with it.grrrr. At least it was a big cab and I can just redraw a cab on it. The Obsidian was the hardest to cut out. I couldn't see the lines I had drawn on them when it was on the saw table top. Something with the angle and the water. Had to pick each one up and look at them after every little cut so I could see if I was doing it right. Fran

Fran: You are the preform queen, we need a pic of all the preforms you have cut! LOL When doing small calibrated cabs I think it is almost easier to have the setting and cab as you go and keep checking, I had some small sterling settings I degilded to use in my silver work and they are just too small for me to deal with, LOL. OK now take a pic of all the preforms!

I was just thinking that I need a way to store them so they are all together with their sets when I want to pick something out to do. I have some now that I have started cabbing and there is an earring missing or I know there is a pendant size cut to match but I have to dig through everything to find them. I am thinking a tiny drop of glue on cardboard to hold each one and that way they are together. When I want to work them, I can just pop them off and begin. Digging through bowls and boxes just makes it too time consuming when I want a specific set I have cut. (Yes, it is a sickness. I have cut that many and not finished them). I will have to think about that. Fran

Fran, I used blue painters tape to bundle stacks of my preshaped sets and then put them in a baggie to store them for the road. I wrote what they are on the tape so I don't have to keep unbundling them. I also used small baggies or celephane, scrunched them in a corner and taped them at the top, wrote on the tape, and cut off the excess baggie.
Oh yeah, and also taped some flat on a piece of cardboard.

Fran, I went to Michael's and found a package of (I think) 100 little zip-lock type baggies, in 2 sizes - 1X2 inches and 2X3 inches, I think. The larger ones are perfect for keeping sets together before you're finished with them.
Just my :2cents:

That might work too but then I would have to dig through plastic bags...Maybe I can glue the bags onto cardboard so I can see them easily...hmmm. Thanks Tom! Fran

Wow, that's a bunch! I know what you mean by just a few, somehow it just doesn't seem to work out that way. My sister has her first baby & now we have lots of baby food jars & those little plastic containers. I have been collecting those while they are available. I don't know yet just how they are going to fit in for organizing. The jars may be a little bulky but I really like the little plastic containers.

Fran, maybe use the little baggies Tom mentioned, then staple or tape them to the cardboard overlapping each other a bit to save space. Easily seen and easily removed.

Fran, I am most impressed with your output. Both the quantity and quality are super. So glad you posted the pics since it reminded me that you had given me a pretty set of pendant and earring preforms in NJ. I was able to locate them and they will be in my first tumble batch at our new location. Thanks again.
