Here is my first finished cabochons. My buddy who has done this for about 60 years, said that they looked good.

Looks very good, indeed! Smooth curved contour, well done dome, great pattern choice. Too bad it has that fine fracture, which you might had not even noticed before cabbing it. I learned the hard way that a good looking pattern must be sacrifficed for avoiding a fracture; the shine of the cab will only outline those darn fractures, plus the risk of breaking apart. There are stabilizing procedures, though, like super glue or, better, opticon, but never used it.

You sure picked a nice specimen to work as your first cab, and considering that it is agate hence harder material. You did really really good.
Feels good when you finish the first? Aye?
Cabbing is my Zen Garden, and I hope to get my equipment out of storage soon.

I am hooked, I finished four the day after I posted this thread. Then the day after that I finished four more, I am very excited. I will get pix as soon as my camera and computer learn how to play well together.
