Hey - I personally am easy pretty much either way - an in a truly appropriate and democratic form - here is the vote for that facility. Again - may I state my view that its a bit of fun. I dont want to even try and influence anyone more than just by saying that. So folks - cast your votes - its YOUR forum. I'll leave it till Friday midday my time (as Im not sure what everones times are then do whatever suites the most people. Cheers all Mark.

I think it would be a very sad thing to bring it back. You've seen what can happen already and we're still missing two members because of this karma thing. I hope you don't bring it back, it's already proved to be destructive to the forum.

I'm with Cher, while I didn't get involved with the threads in question I still voted "no" after reading about the problems that the Karma feature caused. It was something that was meant to be fun but some abused it. I guess that is how the world goes, it only takes one person to mess up a good thing. Onwards friends!

Well the other side of that is, because of a post on that thread, Hermatite saw it and made up her mind to come back. I voted yes, it is not the Karma feature, but how people used it that caused the problems. LIke Mark said it is for fun, and that is how we should use it, not as a tool to get back at someone, which is how I see it was used, my opinion. Terry

Will this, in any way, improve the chances of naked rockhunting? Just asking.

I voted no. I do not believe it was working out well.

I think if this was a new group, or a group willing to start from scratch as to who deserves Karma and who doesn't, then the function would work.
I think it was abused by a few, but that makes it not work for the whole.

Is there a way where people can choose wheather or not to have the Karmam "button" under their names? And remove it if they wanted to? kind of like the Avatar pictures?

At the risk of repeating myself...Do any of us really need a button to tell us of the value of members of this board? Mark thought of a simple & creative way to interact with each other but true to human nature, someone has to go & muck it up!

I don't know what to vote, so I won't, but I do feel like making a comment. Mark noted when he originally put up the karma thing that it was just to have fun with. I was shocked to see people take it seriously and get offended (and I don't think E-dog was the least bit offended when he started his -3 post, I think he has since stated that himself). It was just a silly numbers game to have fun with, if everyone only gave positive karma then why even have a "smite" option? To play devil's advocate, I was going to try to smite myself into the deep negative and see if anyone noticed, but turns out I couldn't rate myself. Then I decided to focus on just one member, and give them karma at every option to see if people would notice their soaring karma. I had just started on that when the thing got shut down.
Guess it doesn't really matter to me if it comes back or not, but if it does come back, PLEASE FOLKS, DON'T TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!!!

What the heck is this all about? Since I'm totally in the dark about this, I'd hate to make an innocent remark on some post that triggers bad feelings...

Mark if you look there is a script in the proboards support that eliminates negitive karma and only allows positive therefore you would get ++ karma and no smite just my 2¢

Give out only good karma when someone earns it. That's all I ever did with it anyway... Well, OK... I admit, I smited a certain "someone" who made off with one of the earlier travelling rock boxes... that's it I swear! ;D

I didn't know about being able to disable - karma. I may now give a qualified yes to karma if the minus karma can be disabled.

I'd agree - if you are able to disable the smiting option, I'd give the Karma a tentative yes instead of a qualified no.

I would be willing to try that. The smiting wasn't helpful.
