Actually, the match (lighter) test for jade is to heat it up and then, carefully, touch it to see if it's hot. Sounds like a cruel joke, but jade dissipates heat so well that it should feel cold almost right away. It's a quick test to ID serpentine masquerading as jade. That's what they do in Guatemala anyway. I've seen yellow jadeite in Guatemala like that, except it wasn't fractured.

Thank you everyone! I can 100% positively ID this as common opal from WA. Susan (Susand24224) sent me some of her opal to test, and some of the pieces were identicle in every way except that mine had way more fractures. Susan also sent me a mfrb of this and other opal pieces from the same area.... GOSH! Some of this waxy stuff is so banded and beautiful! I'm still figuring out how to work it but.... just wait... I'll figure this stuff out !!!
