Prolonged or repeated skin exposure may cause dermatitis. Prolonged or repeated exposure to dusts of copper salts may cause discoloration of the skin or hair, blood and liver damage, ulceration and perforation of the nasal septum, runny nose, metallic taste, and atrophic changes and irritation of the mucous membranes. Sounds like the side effects for those drug commercials on TV... Bill Also sounds like some boozer people I know-LOL!!!!

When I inquired about the toxicity of malachite everyone replied that it was no more toxic than any other copper based rock. Standard safety precautions.

Either way,I'm going to purchase a huge piece, that type of rock is totally awesome,TOTALLY!!!!!! Fossil dust also kicks your butt too.Just have to mask up is all, usually about two showers too,to get the dust off your hair and skin.

common sense precautions when working with it and your fine
for some stuff I wear gloves, but for general cutting, cabbing and carving I wear a real good particulate mask
knock on wood I have never had any issues with lapidary
supplements is another story - had heavy metal poisoning from a green alge drink that was popular years back that came from Canada my legs from the knees down had pin point under the skin bleeding all over getting worse at the ankles and all my toe nails looked like they had blood blister under them.
took a long time to get better

That puddle on my desk is drool! Yowza, I LOVE malachite plumes. Are there any areas of chatoyancy? I have a small piece of plume that is a little chatoyant.

Nice one. But just like a beautiful woman, pretty to look at, but can hurt you if you don't treat her with sufficient respect...
