Next dumb question. Tech support says check my firewall settings. I found the Windows firewall it is either on or off. I have webroot security as well. I turned off the windows firewall but still no good. Is there some way to change the settings? Do I need the windows stuff on with webroot?

I am lucky, my cousin who lives less than a mile away from me is computer geek and a very good one too. When I have a problem he comes over and fixes it for me. I give him free fireworks on the 4th of July and New Years eve, he fixes my computer or my website whenever I screw it up. Good for both of us.
Hope you get it fixed soon John..................Tony

John... check ALL your antivirus software documentation, and see if you can exclude your own website from it. If you don't have a 'Help' section in the software, google it using this format: "name of software" excluding sites, and see if there's anyone else who tried to do that. I've not heard of webroot security, but did a fast google for you and here's how you do it: www.ctimls.com/Support/KB/How%20To/Configure_Webroot_Desktop_FireWal.htmJust add your website (direct control panel access html) to your 'trusted sites' via above directions. I'm not sure if Windows security requires that too, but you can check if it's also a firewall:).

John: I'm with Greg...time for a new 'site'! I find the easiest way to contact you is through PM here... Look for a college kid maybe. My son did this in high school, through college, grad school, and is now owns his own business! I know he's not cheap, but I can have him contact you if you are interested... Sue

Apparently there is "webroot complete" and what I have "webroot secure anywhere". When I open webroot it doesn't mention firewall. I'm assuming then I only have the windows firewall. Since I tried turning it off and still couldn't open the website doesn't that mean it isn't a firewall issue?

Here is an update for all who tried to help. I especially want to thank Helen for calling me and spending a LOOOOONG time trying to walk me through some things to try. I don't know what she looks like but am guessing she looked pretty frazzled after trying to teach me something about computers. Anyway, she suggested I contact Verizon (I use a Verizon wireless device to connect) and my web host. I called Verizon and the Verizon tech support conference called the web host tech support. As soon as the web host techie heard it was Verizon calling they said they were working with Verizon on the issue because there were many Verizon customers with same complaint since the control panel upgrade. This morning it works again and faster on my computer than before. THANKS everyone.

Not frazzled at all John:). I'm so glad you got it resolved.... there was nothing else we could have tried on your computer, so the IP or host was all that was left:P. So the webhost DID have part of Verizon blocked!!! So you did something good for all their Verizon customers:).

Apparently they were aware of the problem and already working on it. The Verizon tech didn't believe it though as she had not heard about it. It works now though.
