Nothing to do with rocks this time, but it has designs written all over and the prize for the first right answer posted, shall be a choice between two cabs or two slabs (does not matter where you are on this planet). Have not chosen the stones/slabs yet, will do that in the next few hours and add to the post.
Celebrating Earth Day and holding English Day in our school this year came very close.
So our theme this year was “recycling”.
For this occasion we had all the students learn a song and prepare wishes in English.
My job was to create a “Wishing Tree” (we don’t do wishing-wells over here in Asia). LOL
Keeping with the theme, the challenge was to create the tree, using as much recycled material as possible. So the base was formed out of discarded card-board and old newspapers with some discarded and quartered bamboo-sticks (cheated a little here by using two rolls of cello-tape.
The whole structure was hardened with some homemade glue and then covered with discarded paper-towels again hardened with the above glue. Then I cheated again because I ran out of time and used to cans of color-spray.
Did some spring pruning of a few trees in the neighborhood and there you got your tree.
As those are bay leaves, I will collect them next week and hence will have enough supply for a few months to come. So, 13 hours (spread out over 5 days) of experimenting (never did something like this before), and at a cost of less than 10US$; here we where.
Posing before the hoard arrived (my two direct supervisors)
So close to 500 wishes later, it still held up quite well, I think.
I have been promised that we will keep the basic structure for use next year in one of our dramas. The question will be simply as to where to store it.
Now my question to you:
I mentioned above that the whole structure is glued together and holds up well enough (I did a piñata once with that glue plus newspapers; after hitting that thing for ten minutes, the parents had to cut it open).
As members here are quite enterprising and resourceful overall, it should not be too hard to guess as to what was used to glue everything together.
If all fails, I shall give another hint to the origin of the glue in about 24 hrs
Good luck
