I had an interesting day today. Went to the rock club to cut some rocks, and they were having a small sale out front. There were only 2 people selling, but one of them was a really sweet old man who was clearing out his specimen and fossil collection. There was no one else there, so I talked to him a bit, and started looking at his stuff.
He started telling me about them, and next thing I knew, I was buying fossils and specimens, neither of which I have any use for:P. I just didn't want him to have to lug it all home again, and I know he needed the money more than the stuff. But mostly, he was having so much fun tellling me about them, I just had to buy some. Well, I ended up with 1/2 his collection, and are broke as hell now. But I'm not very sorry.
He collected all of it himself in the 70s and 80s, all over the country, and most of the rocks are hand-labeled with where they got them from. I may be putting the fossils and most of the specimens on ebay soon, because I really don't have room for them.
These are pieces that were not ID'd... but looked really interesting. Could use some help with ID if you know.
This one resembles the BIG rock I bought at the estate sale, but somehow different. It's not the same material. This is smoother and harder looking, with no translucence. And much smaller, but incredibly flawless in an almost sculpted way:

Detail of only 2 'holes' into it:
This one LOOKS like orange calcite... but I don't think it is. There was no way to get a pix of it the way it looks to the eye, the surface looks like it's coated with diamonds, it SPARKLES in sunlight, there's no part of it that has a translucent polished look. When it's wet, the sparkles are gone, and the color doesn't improve!! It looks like what people describe Youngite to be, but I looked up Youngite and that looks like coral, not a big solid piece like this.
Does anyone have a clue? This is the most BEAUTIFUL peach color I've ever seen... and when it's in the sunlight, you feel like you should be able to eat it, it has that sparkly texture of sherbet. I want to stick it under my pillow so I can wake up looking at it! LOL!

Closeup, but still cannot get a shot of that sparkle:
This one I've seen before, but I never paid attention to the name, so don't know what it is:

Backside has a weird green dot right in the middle that grew there:
This itty bitty rock is a mystery, and he didn't remember what it was either (he didn't remember any of these I've listed here). The core rock is green... and the rock itself looks like it's made from strings or something.... with pinkish peach colored crystals growing on top. Here are shots dry and wet:

This one looks like a blue quartz (is there such a thing?)... but look at the back of it... it's almost like a fossil. Where would you find a rock that eaten and pitted on the outside, with blue and clear quartz on the inside?

Here is the face & bottom dry:
It ALMOST looks like some kind of geode that was hammer broken... but I don't think it is. Any clues?
I know what this one is, it's a Turgite, and I'm posting it to show because it's WILD looking. I'm keeping this one and the peach sherbet:):
The label - says Chubbs Mtns, but that doesn't have Turgite now... so maybe it got mined out a long time ago? The colors on this thing is incredible, and it's ALL over... it just doesn't even look real.
Quick group shot of the fossils, all of which I'm selling and among the best of it's type specimen wise, judging by a quick comparison on Ebay:
The orange thing up top right is a fossil clam that's filled up with calcite crystals. I got 2 of those, and they are flawless (as you'd expect since he got them 30-40 years ago), much nicer than the one that's 'buy it now' for $265 right now on Ebay (NOT asking anywhere near $265, that price is nuts):

OH... and one of those fossils is... a PINECONE (the round brown ball next to the clam... also, that round ball next to the pinecone is also un-ID'd... it LOOKS like a barite rose, but I don't think it is either)!!! Sticksnstones may be interested in that:).
Ideas for ID, or at least a few names I can google, would be appreciated:).
