I use Chevron Bright NHG which I buy from an oil distributor for about $62 for a five gallon bucket. It really doesn't stink at all when I'm slabbing, but there is the occasional whiff of oil if I don't wash my hands thoroughly. every once in awhile a drop may fall on my head when I'm leaning into the saw and that can be fun to completely remove. But, like John, I love it and it does a great job.

I use Mineral Seal Oil that I buy locally from LubeTech at about $70 for 5 gallons. No odor, extremely light (to the point that I add No Smoke to keep it from misting). Sludge settles to the bottom quickly. I don't mind if I get it on my skin because whatever I can't wipe off with a paper towel seems to get absorbed with no ill effects. I'm on my 3rd bucket of it, so I've been happy with it.
I might have to see if I can find a better price on the Chevron.
Bulk Apothecary wants $27 shipping for the $54 container. Not price competitive for me.
SCBT doesn't quote shipping until after I enter payment info., so I can't verify free shipping.

I started picking up pint bottles of the mineral oil at Walmart for $1.48 each. So that's less than $12 a gallon. No shipping, buy as many or as few as you like. They are sold near the pharmacy. Walmarts are pretty much everywhere.
The only downside is the store closest to me doesn't always have them in stock. Either the inventory person sucks at their job, or there are a lot of well-lubed people around here. Or maybe people with rock saws, LOL! I usually pick up four or more bottles when they are on the shelves.

Walmart human mineral oil is definitely a good buy, but it seems to me that someone advocated that it was a bit thicker (more viscose) than the horse laxative stuff. Lee (Rockoonz) quotes a best ISO viscosity of 15 or lower, and something in my aged brain seems to recall someone quoting a higher ISO for the human laxative version. I sometimes mix the Tractor Supply (horse) and Walmart (human) stuff for my own NM blend. It might be especially important to know if this is true and or relevant in the winter. I often start up my saw before my wood stove has brought the temperature of my shop above 40 degrees. The lady at Tractor Supply asked me the last time through "what do you do with so much mineral oil?". I replied with a smile that I had a big horse. She retorted with "its going to be running fast for at least a year". One other wandering factoid. The same bottle of mineral oil that costs a buck and a half at Walmart will cost you closer to $5.50 at Walgreens. Now that must be slick stuff to justify the price dif. Tom

Tom, I'm not sure of the viscosity of it (maybe like 20wt?), but it seems to work just fine for my 10" HP saw. Since it doesn't get so cold here (colder than 50-60 degrees, I'm not going to be out on the patio sawing rock!), I've never had a problem with it being too thick. Jean

Same as Sheltie, I am pleased with the Chevron Brightcut NHG which I purchased for the same price from my local distributor - no shipping. I finally ran out of Pella which came with the saw I purchased (used). The Brightcut is way less smelly and seems to perform well.

Got the first gal of mineral oil, looks like water in the jug. It is the light mineral oil, aka horse laxitive, which is what I am using now. Haven't had the pleasure of changing the oil yet so I don't know how it's going to filter through a brown bag! Thought it was a darn good price though considering the closest feed store wanted 19 bucks for a gal. I use light mineral oil in my 18" saw too.. always have and there is no smell and it filters very well with brown paper bags... the only drawback is the Tractor supply near me is up to almost 19.00/gallon... so I'll be looking into Donnies place because it is cheaper than I get it now !! baby oil type mineral oil is a little thicker than the mineral oil used for a laxative due to the nature of it's intended usage and also because they add ingredients to the baby oil to give it smell and that adds to its thickness. I definitely need a new supplier for mineral oil, at 19/gallon at TSC it's going to get pricey to for me to keep cutting material, the store has been open a year and the price had gone up 3 times and this last time they didn't have any in the store, and I got there as they were putting the order on the shelves!!!!

I buy my mineral oil in bulk from an oil supply company and the price just keeps going up there too. When I started buying it 10 years ago it was around 3 bucks a gallon, now it is 6.80 a gallon + packaging charge (5.95 per 5 gal bucket or $55 per drum although I can bring in my own drum for my own use) so it ends up around $8 per gallon by the time you pay for the bucket. I usually haul 20-25 5 gallon buckets the 800 miles to Quartzsite and sell it for $60 and I always run out by the 2nd or 3rd week there.

Tony Tony, you need to find out how much to ship to Florida, 32796, because at your price I'd buy a 5 gal bucket too!!! if the shipping isn't too high that is

I can check, I did ship one UPS once in the bucket and then they hit me with a back charge a couple weeks later because it was not in a box but that was a while ago.

Price at Tractor Supply is still good around here for horse laxative and tractor hydraulic oil, but this is farm and cattle country. They sell a lot, and can probably keep the prices down because of that.

One thing I have found with the Brightcut is that the rock particles drop out alot faster than with the Pella. Makes for easier clean up in the sump but I get more material residue on the saw deck. Not better or worse, just different. As I said before this stuff is way more friendly to be around than the Pella. I tried to find a mineral oil source locally and it was a failure. For me and my location this was the best value and the performance has been great.

the only drawback to Citation 90 is that it comes in a 55 gallon drum which is cost prohibitive to me.

Well, I will say that although the price went up on the gal of mineral oil from 9 to 14, the shipping is still free when you buy 4. That makes it still a very good deal, especially for me down here in the Florida Keys. I still don't see where the free shipping is so I emailed the company to check on it, will post their reply here when it comes in.
