I received this in a box of tumbling rough from Catmandewe and just curious on what it might be. Thanks, Lyle

Wrong color for a Moqui ball. But could be, depending on the location where it was found.

Silicified Moqui Ball?

Don't think so Jo. A Moqui Ball has a hard packed sand core with an iron shell.

Petrified scoop of vanilla ice cream. Kids drop them all the time. Jim

I thought it looked a little more like spumoni.

Thanks for the inputs, it was definitely weird seeing this in a box of tumbling rough.
Any type of ice cream sounds good in Texas right now.

Looks like kind of an oddball t-egg to me. Some of the eggs from the Baker ranch have a similar shape but a different shell color. Not a Moqui ball for sure. I can tell you one thing about Moqui balls. When I was a beginner rockhound I was out with my pop and we found some Moqui Balls. I thought they were geodes and tried to whack one with my rock hammer. Bad idea! It not only did not break but it shot out from under the hammer head like a cannon ball and almost beaned my pop. Lost my hammer privileges for the rest of that hunt *L*.....Mel

Hey Don, just want to say that I have Limestone Moqui Balls and Pyrite Moqui Balls from Canada that Saskrock kindly sent me in a trade a while back, so it may not just be iron. I have some of the iron ones that were given to me by a Hopi friend last year too. Jo
P.S. sure looks like a scoop of ice cream.
Okay, maybe Moqui Balls are iron around a sandstone core and the ones I have from Sask are just concretions.

Whatever it is, it something I did not have in my collection before. It was one of those "What the Hell is this" moments when I was looking through the box of rough.
If it is sandstone it's packed very tight, and that is a rust stain in the picture. It's not iron
