I love this forum. I have learned much, shared a little, and have had the pleasure of meeting a few members in person as well. If I were to use a single word to describe RTH it would be family. I could attempt to expand on that statement but this weekend has been rather full, I'm really tired and I will just leave it at that. Lee

What I like is the attitude and sense that we are all in this together when it comes to rocks, rock hounding, purchasing, selling, creations, etc.
I have been able to share my bounty as I have shared the bounty of others (the ultimate in wealth redistribution, ha ha)
When you want to show your work, ditto
People have been quite generous when I travel to other regions and helpful, thoughtful, and caring when I have suffered a tragedy or two away from home.
Little pretensions or pretentious people when it comes to rocks and lapidary arts.
Amazing people you meet along the way, both here and abroad. (Is there a more entertaining soul than doc)
We all owe a debt of gratitude to our RTH creator, Mark (Just as he owes a debt to us for making him such an important forum creator)

First, let me thank Jo for starting this post, and Mark for starting this wonderful forum! Camarockerie! What a great word, Ed. It says it all... mostly. My parents bought a Star Diamond double-barrel rock tumbler for me when I was around ten years old (yes, I still have it, about 45 years later - do the math...). How cool it was, I thought, to be able to shape rocks how I wanted them to be, and even make jewelry with them. (Now I have other tools at my disposal, and can modify the rocks even more !). I had not used the tumbler for many years, so when my husband picked up a big hex tumbler, I needed to find information (read , "How to do it") that had long since slipped from my mind, replaced (hopefully!) with more important stuff. I can still ride a bike, after all these years, but for tumbling rocks, I needed a refresher course. I was searching the web for information on tumbling grit amounts, rotation speeds, filling instructions, etc, and stumbled across this site. What an awesome assemblage of information! To get advice from others that have been tumbling, collecting and working rocks for years is just priceless. To be able to learn from their experiences, what works and what doesn't, shortcuts, etc. Only someone as dense as... well, a rock!... would not be able to learn something here. I joined right then and there, and started lurking. I didn't post immediately, but just watched and absorbed what I could. I must say, I've especially loved all the photos of rocks (for ID purposes), as well as worked stones and jewelry (for drool factor). And can't forget about the trip reports - just LOVE those! Oh, and don't forget the tutorials, thanks to all that took the time to do them! To me, RTH is about the sharing of information, ideas, methods and visions, with some personal stories thrown in for good measure. It takes people from the far corners of the globe and unites them, with a common denominator - rocks, of course! But it's also about the people, and you won't find a better batch of them than here on RTH! Did I mention generous? Friendly? Give you the shirt off their back? They are all that! I hope I can be just a fraction as good as them. Because of the distances between us all, like many of you said, we will never meet. So far, I've only met Ralph and Mary Ann (stonesthatrock) in the flesh in Quartzsite last January. (I know, my fault, I should have stuck around...) But from everyone's postings, I feel like I know many more of you - some a little bit, and some like I've known you for years. There's probably more that I can say, but I think you get the gist of it - I love you guys, and I love RTH! Jean

RTH for me was a place I found originally that gave me the knowledge to get shiny rocks, something I was unable to do in the past with my younger kids. The later in life baby got lucky because we always get shiny rocks now thanks to the tips and instructions posted here. It turned into a site I visit regularly which means I spend much less time following baseball / sports in general and entertainment news. Somehow I feel good about this and I'm not sure why. Then it progressed to some posts and then PMs to other members who have all been some of the nicest people I have NEVER met. I have blatantly stolen their ideas and methods and have been able to do things (cutting/ polishing shapes/ hearts) that I had never imagined prior to coming to this site. Members have been generous and kind sending me things (Ed) and asking nothing in return. There must be some type of correlation between rocks and kindness. This board is a perfect example how the net/ technology has made this world a smaller place. There would have never been a way before the net to get all this information easily if at all. Imagine trying to go to a library looking for instructions on how to use a certain vibe tumbler or how to do a certain wrap. Lastly the amount of talented people on this board is second to none. I now really look at peoples necklaces, jewelry in stores and I often think things like Randy's wraps blow these things away or Ed's hearts are so much more unique than the ones I see for sale. The work here is truly inspiring and second to none. I know I left out a lot of peoples works I just wanted to give a few examples. I often wonder why this board has gotten so much of my attention. I think it comes down to nice people sharing their works and ideas in a field that I really find interesting. Camarockerie Bill

Wow... what a lot of great responses! Had a very full day yesterday so didn't have a chance to get back to this. What does RTH mean? Great info, lots of fun and interesting people, fun arguments (I mean discussions), and new friends. Fun place:).

RTH, you all welcomed me a few years back, altho I don't do so much with stone any more I still buy and collect, but personal circumstances have altered my priorities.
I come here because you are probably the best people I have yet to meet, I will make it one day. I enjoy reading your heated discussions, I love looking at the pictures you post your creativity and work you produce is amazing.
So I come here to relax smile at the jokes, and just enjoy what is pretty much the best hobby I've ever had.
