Scott - of course! At this point, it looks like Sunday, Sept 2. As the day gets closer, we can lock in times and the meeting location. Be great to meet you in person! We'll have to keep it within the hiking limits of small children and low slung cars like my Intrepid . Hopefully, others can make it as well! John - I've taken the Intrepid north on the dirt road as far as the entrance to the dump. I've not gone further to the north east as it started getting sandy and I didn't think my car would be capable in that. Barbara's pilot did okay through that area but she's not real keen on me using it for off-road work.

It has been brutally hot lately. 110 and a few clouds to add a little humidity. I'll pre run the roads before when a date is set and see what conditions are. Last time I drove Mule canyon most of the roads were freshly graveled. I think the road to Green Ash Hills also.

Yikes, that's hot... I've been complaining that Costa Mesa's been hovering just under 100 and humid ... Of course, some missionary friends from southeast asia came in for a visit and were laughing at me - their idea of hot is over 110 with 80% humidity. LOL!

I drove through Yermo last Saturday and it was 113, came back through Wednesday and it was 109 according to the car thermometer. That is an area I have been itching to explore, just waiting for cooler weather.

Daddio - that whole region along 15 and 40 is awesome for rockhounding. But, yes, we're looking forward to cooler weather. When we were up there, I think the rocks, themselves, were 90 degrees.

I'll be back by mid October if anyone wants to make a group trip then. Everyone jokes they sell all the real estate here in October.

An October date would be great. Should be cooler and, at least at this point, we don't have anything on the calendar yet. The boy's basketball schedule sometimes gets crazy but a lone day off from basketball isn't going to kill them. And I'm dying to get out as well.

Hi Don - yeah, thanks! I've been using that site for a bit as his maps and directions are pretty good. Did you read the intro about the guy who originally put it all together? Sounded like a great guy. Thanks for pushing this over. Paul

Count me in for October. We took a trip out to our club's claim near Lake Mead last month and by 10:30 it was scorching. I did come home with some nice agate specimens. I hope to get time next week to do some cutting.

Hey folks, Slight change in plans: Tammy (RockingtheNorth) and I are going to meet at the Minneola Off-Ramp off of Highway 15 tomorrow at 10:00 AM. We'll do some quick rockhounding up by the dump before heading off to Calico for lunch. Hopefully, we can all meet up there!
Sorry for the last minute notification. I just got back into town this evening.
Talk to you soon! Paul Shiroma

Stay safe.
It is Dove Hunting Season Opener and it's a Saturday. I expect to hear about accidental shootings related to idiots who haven't hunted in many years. The fact it is Saturday makes it so everyone who can buy a hunting license goes, except me!

Yeah, Don. I don't need to eat dove that badly!
My buddies regularly use 75+ shells to get 10 birds. Makes for a lot of noise.

I had a nice if brief visit with Tammy, her sister, and Paul. We will have to do a Mule Canyon trip this Fall.

It was great getting out for a short rockhounding hike with Tammy, her sister, and John. Looking forward to the next trip with the RTH Gang!
