I went to the Edmonds Rock Show today to buy more Sugilite with Richterite. I was soooooo sad because the Sugilite they had left was nothing spectacular. They told me that they pretty much got bought out at the Madras Pow Wow. I did however, find some amazing material that I had never seen before. Super pricey, so I only bought two little slabbettes that are pretty much preformed already and fracture free. The green is some of the brightest I've ever seen in a stone! This is Maw Sit Sit Jadeite from Burma. I was told not only from the vendor, but from my club president (that also had a booth set up) that this is not only rare but takes a super high polish I also picked up a slab of Charoite from Siberia and a Chrysoprase And last but not least, a Mexican Crazy Lace. I couldn't resist this piece. If you look at the fortifications in the center'ish of the stone.... no fractures! I plan on making a mondo tear drop cab out of it. Should be intense.

That is the most intense green rock that I have seen and probably the prettiest green rock that I have seen. I'll bet that it would make a gorgeous ring. I may have to try to find some. The other stuff is fab also. You have the eye. Jim

Paraphrased (or how I pictured it) from a GIA friend: mawsitsit is on a geologic continuum between jade and serpentine.
Some of the mawsitsit has little black dots. It's a beautiful stone, as are all your finds.
From wikipedia: Maw-sit-sit was the result of high pressure, low temperature metamorphism of a chromium-rich ultramafic rock. It occurs on the rim of a peridotite intrusion that has been altered to serpentine

Krystee, do your magic on that Maw Sit Sit. We'll be waiting for the results.
I've been debating on weather or not I should spring for the $100.00 + for a nice chunk of that Charoite that I've been eyeing up for a while. Little over a pound of material.

Don..... If I can help you in anyway of making a decision..... I paid $2 a gram for my piece. The little piece you saw in this post cost me $18.00. I don't usually spend that kind of money on rock but.... this vendor has the wow factor and they have stuff from every country. It's too hard for me to walk away from their booth LOL! (btw... they did give me a deal at the end... but I was sweating it at first knowing what my bill would be )

Sad I missed the rock show. It would have been cool to possibly meet you. We have guests intown and although they loved checking out my rocks, they wanted to sight see in Seattle. I have never heard or seen you sit sit jadeite. That color is breath taking. I love seeing such amazing colors coming from the earth. To me, it's the most fascinating part of rock collecting as well as the history of how it formed.

Don... very interested in what this goes for in 23 hours! Between me and you.... I think the two tiny pieces I got are much better than this piece. The apple green is intense, better than anything Granny Smith could offer. This Ebay seller would have showcased the color in a second had he or she been able. Right? I haven't started it yet... little nervous.....I did start the mondo crazy lace though.... wish me luck!

I've had my eye on a nice chunk of seraphinite, but I've never worked with the material. I'm a little bit hesitant to put out that much money for something I might mess up.

It sold before I could make up my mind. Gotta watch my pennies. Tomorrow I'll be sending out $300.00 for 2 very nice Fairburn agates. Collector grade pieces.

OH OH OH!!! We saw the Seraphinite at the show too! Gorgeous!!! Patrick (hubby) thought we should buy a slab.... problem was that the slabs were all too big. I just can't fathom paying 50+ for a slab. Patrick said heck no too after we were told the price......
Love the material though and seeing it in person makes me drool!!!

Krystee We PM'd just recently and I still want to consider a rock club to join. My biggest issue is time commitment to meetings. I hate being "one of those members" who don't contribute by going to meetings. You mention you are with East KingCo Club. I have been thinking about the North Seattle Chapter since I commute between Everett and Ballard for work in hopes to make a meeting. Their requirement is to go to 2 consecutive meetings for membership. It would be great to make a great attempt to go to meetings though I'll check out the East Chapter as well. Thanks Krystee for the info Sad I missed the rock show. It would have been cool to possibly meet you.
