Thanks for the info, Snuffy. I've been wondering about those questions for months. This was my favorite batch that you've done so far. Some of those close ups almost look fake, they're so shiny.
I'm surprised at your tumbling method. I have Lot-O and I go from the rotary, then do 120/220, 500, 1000, tripoli, and sometimes ao polish. I realize that grit keeps breaking down in the tumbler, so that extra week in the rotary really pays off for you. I use a lot less 1000 and polish than you do. 1/2 tsp. Have you tried less to see if it makes a difference?

I've never tried less, thats the way I started. That extra week works great in the larger tumblers.Didnt work out good in my smaller ones, just dont have the grinding action of the large.

I have a Lortone 33B. I'm getting a QT66 for just that reason. Just how much faster is it?

I have some agates that I got in a trade that have been going for months. I take a couple out each week and replace them, so there are new ones going in all the time, but after about five months, I still don't have enough to completely fill my Lot-O. I do go for perfection though. Those last little imperfections take forever.

I think I have to learn to reject some. I rarely give up on them, so they end up tiny sometimes.
