Anyhow, I went and moved the arbor up so that it doesn't bury the blade in the oil. Better also because it will allow for more coolant volume to dissipate more heat since I have the opposite problem here in FLA from y'all up north and need to keep the oil cool rather than warmed up. I'm pondering the idea of using mineral oil or maybe using a water based coolant to keep the smell down. Don't know what I could add to the water to prevent corrosion, though. Any ideas? C-ya, Rick The weather here in Florida can get col enough to thicken the oil, even Mineral Oil, as I have found out turning on the saw when it's in the 40's.... It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. BTW... All I use is Mineral Oil in my 18 inch saw. My Trim saw, 8 inch Lortone, Uses RV Antifreeze mixed 50/50 with water and some kool Lube additive for water cooled saws, helps break the surface tension of the water and contains a rust inhibitor. Basically it's oil that is water soluble. The drawback to using water mixes in a saw is that they evaporate and when that happens rust can form on the blade from the water vapor moving past the blade. I have let my saw sit for up to 2 weeks and with no fluid left in it has had only very minor rust form on the blade sides and has had no effect of performance... I just fill it up, turn it on, and away I go !!!. I also use a thicker blade because I tend to have a heavy hand when it comes to using the Trim Saw.

parfive - The pump is a model # 1P928B. The ebay listing said it was 1/70hp. Works good and should be fine supplying a 1/2" line wyed into two 1/4 lines/nozzles. The pump is all metal with the base and riser being brass. It was dirt cheap - $15.00. I do notice that the impeller is nylon - might not stand up well to being in oil with rock dust but should last long enough for me to find or fabricate an aluminum one.
Da Dad - Hey, you're in Fla, too? Cool! Erm..... at least today it is. Where in Fla? I'm in Palm Bay on the east coast about 25mi south of Cape Canaveral/Kennedy Space Ctr. Yup, it's going down to like 42 2night. Great for working in the garage this time of the year but won't last very long until it's 110+ degrees in there again. So, does antifreeze leave an oily residue on the rocks? I'd reckon there would at least be some odor, right? I have a 8" trim saw I got on ebay for $80 and cheap shipping that has a real thin blade and seems to work pretty good. It does have a bit of rust but no biggie - just don't want it to get any worse. Thanks, Rick. I’ve got almost the identical pump in my saw and was looking for a spare. Mine only has Teel and Dayton Electric Mfg on the nameplate, no number, and I couldn’t find anything similar online. Your number did the trick, but unfortunately . . . “This Item no longer available and cannot be ordered online.” Looked exactly like mine too. Guess the next one will be plastic.

If Dayton then it is from Graingers. Maybe see what they replaced it with. That was a common pump back in the heydey (60's- 70's). Could be demand dropped to the point that they stopped making them. I used a good quality plastic swamp cooler pump on a drop saw I used Covington's water soluble "Koolerant #1" in. Worked fine with that. Only problem I had was the distributor lines were really tiny (like 1/8") so they would plug up.

Rykk, remember we're talking the non-toxic RV antifreeze used to winterize the drinking water tanks and plumbing in an RV, not toxic glycol engine coolant or windshield washer fluid.

Yep - I know about that stuff. Actually, I smoke it - sorta. The "drinkable antifreeze" is propylene glycol - same stuff used to make stage fog, simulate smoke in electronic cigarettes, and in food flavoring/coloring. The green stuff is ethylene glycol.
I'm still up in the air about coolant. I looked at the Koolerant stuff today but I think it was like $90 for 5gal. I'm estimating 7-10gal for my sump. I'm going to fill it with water to check for leaks and should learn how much it takes then. C-ya, Rick
