A good friend of mine had a rather large and valuable red and white Fairburn agate stolen from her display case in the last few days. I'm working on getting pics of the agate to post here. I'm asking that our members keep their eyes open at rock shows for this piece. I should have pics to post this morning.
This is a well known agate, seen by many in the Fairburn lovers community, so it's doubtful that the scumbag stole it for his own collection. It will probably be put up for sale in the next few weeks.
All rock shops in and around the Black Hills have been notified, and have hard copy pics of this agate, so it's doubtful that the thief will try to unload the agate locally.
Thanks all. Don

Don, I was having that same problem. I think it didn't upload correctly. Leave the other one up on your photobucket page (since you already have it linked to the other forum), rename it something else, and upload it again. Worked for me. I also reset the thingy where it "randomized" the name. Do I care that people can see what the name of my photo is? No, I don't. That also seemed to make things go easier as well. Good luck with pb, and I hope someone recovers the agate. Jean

Don, I downloaded the photo from your pb page, and uploaded it on mine. Figured the sooner it was posted, the better. Still don't know why pb is not cooperating with you. If you get the bugs, worked out, I'll delete this if you want me to. Jean

Thank you Jean. I don't understand what's going on with my PB. Every time I try to send the pic over here, way too much code comes up. When I post it I get the blank with a message. We'll leave your image up, and I'll remove my attempts.
I should point out that it's the top piece in the pic that was stolen.
Again, thank you Jean.

If the person is trying to sell it, and is smart, they will wait some time before posting to somewhere like eBay. Perhaps bump this thread once a month??

Toad, true, or they might try to unload it before too many people know about it being stolen.
Was it a club show case? The ones for our shows are not very secure.
Good luck!

Pat, the stolen agate was in a showcase in the office of my friends business. Unfortunately she's a very trusting sole, and lets her customers go in to see her collection. Hopefully she has the thief on security tape. She has several days of security tapes to go through.
The Fairburn collectors in South Dakota are a pretty tight knit community. I doubt if the thief will try to sell it in state, unless it's to a tourist. Most likely he will try to unload it at the Chadron Nebraska show & swap in the near future. Most of the major sellers, and all rock shops within 250 miles have been notified and given a picture of the stone.

Go right ahead Mike. The more times the word and pic get out there, The better the chance the thief will get caught, and my friend will get her Fairburn back. I'd appreciate it, and I know my friend will as well.

GOOD NEWS. The missing agates have been returned to their owner. Just a few minutes ago my friend contacted me to say that a stranger walked into her business, handed her the missing agate and told her that he had been asked to give them to her. Then he walked out without further comment.

Myself and other friends of this lady created enough heat that the thief knew he wasn't going to be able to sell the agates in South Dakota.
Since this happened, a lock has been added to the display cabinet, and her office door is kept locked unless she's in there.
