Perhaps a silly question, but can I use my current phones or do I have to order one of theirs? I currently have VW and love it but I sure don't love the cost!

Perhaps a silly question, but can I use my current phones or do I have to order one of theirs? I currently have VW and love it but I sure don't love the cost! You have to use theirs. They are discontinuing the Defy XT soon and the MOTO X is an absolute rockstar! I love mine. $25 a month unlimited everything. Keep in mind, they have no telephone tech support. It is community based and you must solve your own problems. If it gets really gnarly they do have online tech support. They respond almost hourly to online tech support needs. The real issue is how good is sprint in your area. In mine they are 99% as good as Verizon. paulshiroma - how do you like it so far?

My 3 lines for $100 with Metro has crept up to $135 and the data sucks on my phone. My husband has a cheaper phone with great web connection but it keeps dropping calls. I think I'll look into this instead of spending $200 on a new phone for him. Do they have "family plans" or do I sign us up seperately? If I do seperate - I could use 2 of you for references, 1 for each phone. PM me with the referall info

I use Virgin mobile, $55.00 unlimited everything and no contract. You can also get for $35 300 anytime minutes with unlimited messaging and data or for $45 you get 1200 anytime minutes also with unlimited messaging and data. Either 3g or 4g network. I undertand that I can't use my own phone, is that correct? I just got a Samsung Gallaxy smart phone with 4g whatever. I would hate to have it go to waste as I just started understanding how to use it. LOL Stu

LOL Stu Republic wireless technology requires a custom operating system, they only support their own phone/configuration. Unless you are VERY tech savvy, I doubt you could make your galaxy work. It may not have the system requirements.

I have T-Mobile and in my area the coverage is perfect. We recently switched our plan and have 5 lines, unlimited everything and it is $110 per month plus taxes. Our old bill for the 5 of us on it (Candiss is too young being only in 5th grade) was over $300 and when we had overages could escalate to $500. The new plan they came out with is heaven for me and my family!!! The only issue I have is that it is max 5 lines so when Candiss starts junior high school, my oldest son will have to get his own plan. But he's got a year and a half to shop and compare

So anybody know anything about Solavei? They use the T-mobile towers, unlimited everything for $39 and $5.00 off for each additional phone.

Ok, here's a really dumb question I have to ask before I decide what to do. I was looking at my VW program yesterday and it is broken down into three components: minutes, messaging, and data. I have 500 minutes (I'll never use that in five years!), and unlimited data. What exactly is data? It isn't texting, is it?

Data is basically cell phone internet. Messaging is text.

Data is basically cell phone internet. Messaging is text. As a follow on to my first dumb question - do you mean that if I surf the net on my phone or if I use the phone as a mobile hot spot)?

To Shotgunners question at me: I'm completely satisfied and a loyal customer now. Very very pleased with Republic's service and setup. Being in socal, the reception is just fine. I'm still on the Defy XT as it's got everything i need and I'm going to wait until the MotoX is stable and the bugs worked out. It looks like Scott is satisfied with his so after my Christmas debts are worked of I may upgrade us.

I should mention I'm doing this on my DeftXT while we're at Andrew's basketball game...

Yes, both. Most cut rate cell companies don't allow hot spots or tethering your phone to a laptop, only surfing with the phone.

Republic does not allow tethering because the whole business model is built off the phone using outside service, wifi specifically. To use the 3g/4g for tethering is exactly the opposite of their business model.
