Ah yes, the knower of all things has spoken. Let us all discard our coffee pots and buy his herbal teas. Let us all gulp down vast quantities of his herbal medicines, and make him vastly rich. How many of those herbs are grown in China ? How many are fertilized with human waste in Chinese fields ? How many of those fields are sprayed with herbicides and pesticides which are banned in the U.S.? How many Chinese children working like slaves in those fields are exposed every single day to these same herbicides and pesticides? All so a very small group of Chinese and American businesses can accumulate vast quantities of wealth ? How many of our elderly have been conned into believing that these snake oil potions will cure all of their ills, and allow them to live longer healthy lives ? How many of these very same QUACK potions have actually shortened peoples lives ? Isn't it about damned time that the FDA start regulating these so called herbal medicines ? Isn't it about damned time that our FDA step in and investigate these pushers of QUACK medicine ? These so called Holistic doctors get away with what they are doing because there are no federal regulations on their Quackery. Isn't it about damned time that our federal government passes some regulations which actually protect us from this QUACKERY ? Oh, the Almighty Nutcase speaks again!!! You obviously know less about herbal medicine than you do about metallurgy, which was also minimal. Herbs are more highly regulated than most pharmaceutical drugs. Not only do they require more purity testing for manufacturing unlike pharmaceutical drugs medical claims can not be made for herbs even with solid evidence. And an herb can be banned by the FDA on an assumption of danger with no solid proof. The whole ephedra issue was a great example. Pharmaceutical drugs on the other hand do not have to be proven safe nor effective in order to obtain FDA approval. As an example the FDA was Court ordered back in the 60s to remove 710 FDA approved prescription drugs from the market found top be ineffective or too dangerous for human use. The FDA found a loophole and left all these drugs on the market. Many have since been made available over the counter despite the fact that they were once considered so dangerous that they required a prescription. One of these drugs is dextromethorphan (DM) used in cough medicines, which was proven to be no more effective than placebo. A later study reported in the Journal of Pediatrics once again reported that DM was found to be no more effective than placebo, yet the FDA still has this proven worthless crap on the market. As another example, if you ever watched the old commercials for Ambien and Lunesta you would have heard where they clearly said their drugs were "non-narcotic". Do you know what the definition of "narcotic" is? Of course not because you are a complete moron. So let me help you out Don. The definition of a narcotic is a "sleep inducing agent". So here we have these supposed sleep aids that their manufacturers have clearly claimed do not work yet they still got full FDA approval!!! So you want to discuss quack medicine? Start by looking at FDA approved drugs. By the way Don I know you don't realize these facts so let me fill you in some more. FDA approved: -Statin drugs used to lower cholesterol cause heart failure. -Oral hypoglycemics used to treat diabetes can make a type 2 diabetic insulin dependent. -Antidepressants can cause severe suicidal depression. -Asthma inhalers actually make asthma attacks more likely leading to a possible inhaler dependence. -Chemotherapy drugs are listed as known carcinogens. -Steroids used to treat autoimmune conditions further suppress the immune system making the underlying autoimmune condition worse. -Thyroid medications atrophy the thyroid making the thyroid more under active, which is why they have to keep upping the dose of thyroid medication. -Osteoporosis treatment drugs known as bisphosphonates actually increase the risk of bone fractures by making the bone brittle. The list goes on and on, but I know you will ever get it since this would require being smarter than a 5th grader, which you clearly are not. www.uchospitals.edu/online-library/content=P00181Oh look ! vegasjames has been in conventional medicine since he was 14 years old. What country was that in vegasjames ? There are child labor laws in this country you know. There are also very stringent laws about who can be involved in conventional medicine in this country. www.mountainmistbotanicals.com/ A little free advertising for you vegasjames) That 14 year old statement sounds sort of like misleading advertising to me. LOL. Even his facebook page has him starting in conventional medicine at age 14. www.facebook.com/pages/Mountain-Mist-Botanicals/175260719218841?sk=wall

Vegasjames, you have no idea of the degree of my education. But if education means being a know it all like you, I'm damned proud to be less educated than a 5th grader. At least I'm not regarded as a phoney like you are by so many fine folks on this forum.

vegasjames, your vast knowledge on seemingly all subjects is wasted on us mere mortals. We are just a bunch of simple rockhounds with fifth grade educations. I would venture a wild guess that most people here do not appreciate you or your brilliance. Perhaps you can find another site to frequent, with people that share your intelligence and passions. Should you ever develop social skills and learn how to play well with others, you could try a comeback. Don't go away mad, just go away.

Whoa. What is wrong with you people? Since when does anyone not appreciate brilliance? I do. Who here decided that stupidity is more valuable than brilliance? While I'm no proponent of natural teas, I've done quite a bit of parallel studies from the aromatherapy side, and the study of the herbal effects of plants is not only therapeutically beneficial for EVERYONE, if only to learn more about it, it's a fascinating subject as well. Years ago, I thought it might be interesting to see what herbs would take out viruses... believe it or not, there's a vast body of gov't studies already done on the efficacy of many herbs already to build on. James posted some of them from the NIH site (PUBMED IS the US National Library of Medicine- the repository of all US medical knowledge that every single Corporation goes to, sort of like the US Patent Library for Patents). The NIH is the National Institute of Health, and ALL tests done and submitted through them are from phD's and Universities, and are valid as published papers, SCIENTIFICALLY STUDIED. The ONLY recognized scientific studies in the US. He overwhelmed you with data, but if you arbitrarily picked one, say this one: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12470437?dopt=AbstractYou can look all over the site and learn something. This is one of the most valuable medical resources on earth, if not THE most valuable for medicine, and you can quickly determine 'quackery' by looking something up here directly. The more incredible thing if the brilliance is irrelevant is that you guys are insulting him on his thread. Why comment at all if you want him to 'go away'? You obviously don't, you just have mean things to say. What kind of people like to say mean things?

We all appreciate brilliance Helen. B.S. is another matter. When ones brilliance is based on internet searches to prove oneself more brilliant than others, That isn't brilliance. It's B.S.
When one pretends to be so obnoxiously brilliant that people get sick of reading their crap, and speak out against it, that is the right of that person. We're all entitled to our opinions. At least for now. Heaven knows that we've put up with your B.S. for long enough. We've listened to enough of your googled brilliance over the last year or so.

Of course when discussing politics on an internet site is 'googled brilliance'. That's true of every side, since if you were THERE, you wouldn't be able to talk about it without releasing classified information not available to the public, and if you aren't THERE, you are spouting what you read on the internet. No one is getting any other information they can post from other sources. Just arguing the validity of their sources and defending why they choose to believe those sources over other sources. As for putting up with ME, I figure I am putting up with YOU. LOL! It's pretty easy not to read or respond to someone on the internet isn't it?

Helen, in vegasjames's own words, you are now his knight in shining armor. Come to defend him. It wasn't so long ago that vegasjames called Jim (wampidy) my knight in shining armor, because Jim dared to speak his own mind. What a torch to carry. vegasjames's very own knight in shining armor.

Why can't a movie be made out of this thread. It could be sold to Hollywood. Create a new town called Hollyrock. And a huge white coffee cup on the side of one mountain and the participant's heads carved out of the adjacent mountain. Well, get a third mountain for the real big heads that are so full of brains....
