I saw where it was noted that Tucson is geared more to faceting. Is there any good deals for facet rough in Q? I will be going for the first time in mid Jan. Any suggested facet rough vendors would be appreciated. Memory tells me facet rough vendors are few and far between at Quartzsite. But I haven't attended for a while and that may have changed. Maybe some are now doing both Qtz and Tucson. Tucson's really the place for facet rough. There are rough dealers at many of the shows but a lot seem to congregate at the Pueblo show and at points along Speedway. Bring lots of money and prepare to be overwhelmed if it's your first visit! Quartzsite is typical of desert weather. It can be really cold at night and tee shirts in the afternoon. Windy makes it colder. Always best to dress in layers. This January was record cold for first two weeks. The desert is known for having very unusual weather most of the time so I wonder what normal is? If I was flying in I would "camp" at a motel in Blythe, CA. It is about 15 minutes west of Quartzsite. Desert Gardens has camp spaces behind the show with electric but I don't know what they charge.

We travel by RV so no help here with motels. Hopefully weather won't be a factor. It may determine your route for you.

I am thinking about going to Quartzsite in January. I've never been and don't know what to expect. I'd mostly be looking for tumbling rough. I'm sure I'll leave with more than that though. Is everything available all month long? Only on weekends? Is a particular weekend better than others?
Thanks

WooHoooooooo Cathy! Looking forward to seeing you.
There are some facet rough vendors in Q but most of them keep them behind the counter so you have to ask.
Tuscon has different sections of town for different things, some sections are for rough, some are facet grade material, some are for cut gems, some are for finished jewelry, some are for beads, etc, etc.
meviva, everything is available all month long. The first week is best if you want to see the new material that was brought in this year, other than that it doesn't really matter.

The last week in January is good. You can get some real bargains before vendors pack up to go to Tucson. wish I could afford the trip this year...looking like a great BBQ again.

My best year was watching Lee come by with loads of rock. Like watching a kid in a toy store. A barefoot, demented kid.

My best year was watching Lee come by with loads of rock. Like watching a kid in a toy store. A barefoot, demented kid. Yeah he was a hoot! He hauled so much rock back to my booth and boxed it up to send home. I don't remember how many boxes he sent home but it was a bunch. He sure did have some fun................Tony

13 LFRBs $181 worth of postage and about 450lbs. It was a blast. Hope to do it again next year.

I figured Lee had a lot but geez didn't know it was that much...lol. Yeah it was a hoot watching him roaming around the desert rockhounding with only a piece of rubber on his feet. At least he wasn't barefoot all the time. Will sure miss you this year.

I'll miss you too. I spent my extra money on sterling jewelry to sell. If I didn't do that, I would have my plane ticket in hand already.

I will be there a few times in Jan as usual! I must go the first week, as Tony said, to see all the new material dug over the last year. I usually buy a couple of small rough then bring it home, work it, and see if I like it. I have plenty of time to go back and get more. I am going to attend the BBQ this year!! I only live 1 1/2 hr from Q so if anyone needs a place to stay or wants to rock hunt Wickenburg, let me know. I will help however I can. I have hounded a bunch from here to there! Dixie Peak is an option if anyone is up for that. The weather here has been pretty warm so far! Only one cold snap a couple of weeks ago. We hit 80 tomorrow, been in the 70's. So far, looks like Tony might get to wear his shorts & T's! I miss being on here like I used to so look forward to catching up with everyone! The one thing I can add to the newbies going for their first time.............BRING LOTS OF MONEY! If you don't, when you get there, you will wish you had!!!!!

Yeah, bring lots of money, then when you think you are bringing way too much money, double it. Then just bring all your money! The place is amazing. Blew my mind last year. And bring CASH.
