Thanks Jim. The aging is important.
I may have to do my own discrete digging to solve the mystery of the fossil coral chemistry. It really seems discrete from that of other parts of the world. Hardness/toughness may come from different chemical origin. It also may be easier to replicate in my synth-agate lab.

Good. I was trudging thru some resources that may shed light on the mystery. The Univ. of Florida will have your answer. They are premier source of earth science, biology and paleontology. I will make a guess that you will have a hard time finding your answer thru a different source.

That sounds like travertine stuff, layered stuff. Not fossils.
