Mutiny on the Coral Dig! Too funny! I figured the geodes were pretty rare. The closest I've found to coral geodes are some agates I have that were found on or near the Mississippi River in MO.I cut a bunch of them and found what I think to be exceptional.I cut a slab about 3" x 2" and tossed in my vibe.It came out beautiful and I wish I had more like it. Funny how I came about getting the agates.A woman in MO wanted a small arc welding machine and I had a Sears 50 AMP welder I didn't want or need.I traded her the welder for the same weight in agates! LOL The shipping from CT to MO was crazy but I sure got a lot of those agates! LOL
I think I told you that I read some hewer about the length to diameter ratio for tumblers?I can't remember where it was cuz it was a long time ago but I suspected your long tumbler may have problems. Hey,,,ya never now if ya don't try.
You mentioned being nice,,,,,,I'm usually a pretty nice guy but as the saying goes,,"nice guys finish last",,,does this mean I would go to the end of the list,,,,,,,,forever? LOL I'm 70 so forever may not be too far down the road for me! LOL Well,,,,,,,some day when you have a mind to and you're not tumbling, growing aquatic plants, erecting tall buildings, doing metal work and cookin coral,,,,and you think of me,,,I'd appreciate some of your coral.I'll try to be as nice as possible and if you send me either a hunk I can cut or a slab you like I can make a pendant for your wife out of it.If you send a slab try to cut it about 1/4" thick so I have something to work with. I aint the best jeweler on the board but I try,,,, connrock

Yes, welder is heavy, especially the old ones. i would think that is a lot of agate. Unique trade.

I disagree with that statement.
This is the pendent Connrock made for my wife. I made the matching earrings. The quality of the pendent is Top-Notch! She wears it often and gets many complements on it.
Thank You again for making it for her...........MrP

Sir conrock is modest. The man is a Master. You got to twist his arm to post his art.

WOW,,,You must have had to dig DEEP into the archives to find that pendant! LOL I forgot all about that one! LOL Back then I was starting to get fairly good at it until the price of silver got to high for me to buy it and give my work away. I made a pendant for tonyturner a long time ago and he graciously sent me some 24 or 26 gauge silver plate in return. That was the last time I had plate and when I ran out of it I started playing with steel and copper! LOL Never got very good with them either!
The only time I've been called a Master is when my wife tells me I have a Master's degree in being a pest! LOL I have to admit that after being married to her for almost 48 years I've had a LOT of practice at it! LOL connrock

I think you did a good thing cutting the long barrel James and I wish I could find that darn write-up on barrel length v diameter and RPM's. You've got it pretty much nailed down already but it was interesting reading if nothing else. Keep us posted on your progress. connrock

They work great at 18 inches long. Hold 18 pounds each. The fine grit barrels will last forever. But the sharp coral is wicked and at that fast speed in coarse and it takes a toll. So barrel cost is $38 per year. Not bad. Basically they hold 1 pound per inch of length. Fast shafts for coarse are 38 inches long and slow shafts for finishing are 50 inches long. I need to reverse that so that the longer shafts are for the slower coarse process. So i run a coarse barrel on the slow shaft too. the rig
