well, I started out with a few pieces but as people sent me new material and I found more local stuff, I kept running them through the vibe to see what was beneath the worn stuff. Ended up with about 4 (four) 3.5 lb loads to run through the 500 grit and now on to the polish stage. I popped the first few into the Lot-O a few minutes ago. This is everything I tumbled, I will strongly edit for the polish stage, lots of rough is so rough I will have to run it for a month or 2 straight on 200 and the grit may still stick in all the little grooves and dents... there is something to be said for running lake worn rocks... you can see the difference between the stuff forum friends have sent me and the lake worn stuff I have collected clearly. Will have to invest in a rotating tumbler eventually if I want to go for the super shiny stuff. So these were photo'd wet and i'll probably take almost half out to finish in the polish, the others will be saved for when I have a wheel or a rotary tumbler, and still others will go to live in my pretty rock garden outside. It has been a learning experience and very interesting so far. Final results in a picture when all the batches are done. (might be addicted already)

I can't wait to see your finished rocks. When mine have been in 500 for a couple days, I start to see the shine. Are yours getting shiny yet?

A fine assortment of candies snowmom. Those will take the show. The lake rolled ones have a lot of the grinding done for you. Maybe the giant chunks of ice at the shore helps. Probably the glaciers of old did the most rounding.

braders, one little one! I love the way the pet wood looks naturally and am worried I will ruin it through my inexperience. I'm saving most of that for future batches when I am more confident. Some will just stay as it is because it is so cool sitting there as a rock in disguise of a piece of wood. The stuff is amazing!

nice batch! Lots of colors! I was drawn to the heart shaped one in the top right corner. I think I'd be tempted to wrap it as-is, afraid it would lose the shape if I tumbled it more. But I have a rotary - I think the vibe will give you shine without losing the shape

still working on it, I still have about half the rocks to run through the vibe. Some are being very obstinate about taking a shine, and some are showing flaws that I had not seen so more sorting and picking is needed yet. Still a work in progress, but getting closer! It does seem as if it is taking forever!

Trust me buddy its very hard to mess that wood up its hard stuff and I know youll do just fine !! And yes it hides very well iv picked it up when its fell outta rock pile and about thrown it in fire pit many times ha ha ha I have a bunch a small tumble sizes left over from sniffing out fossilman some wood It should fill a small box if ya want me to send um your way ?? Be good practice or more ninja wood to hang around the house

well, here they are. I have stopped the tumbler for the present time, changing gears as cold weather approaches. Some of these need to go back into the first stages for a month or 2, some need to be culled, but a lot of them have good shine on them now. Photo was taken at the crack of dawn, so it is not the best, but it gives an idea. I learned a lot, especially about what not to do, and think i'll get it right if I can limit myself to one smaller batch at a time of more consistent materials. I have everything but the kitchen sink in here. Thanks to all for your kind words and comments, I'll do better as I learn.
