I keep fancy guppies and have 4 good sized tanks. All of them have some tumbled rocks on the floor of the tank. shows the rocks off well because they are always wet and the tank lights make them easy to see.

I need to know your secret! The rocks are all fantastic, but how did you get your son to keep his room so clean? ?

My mum and dad surprised me with a couple of clear presentation trays the other day they had managed to pick up at a discount place. I need to find some time to fill them, and daylight to photograph them!

I keep them in different places in my spare bedroom and look at them a lot. I am quite proud of my accomplishment in the tumbling aspect of my collecting. I take some to work and show my friends the before and after and they are amazed.

My wife and I use some of my tumbles to make earrings and Christmas ornaments to give as gifts. We keep a large bowl of tumbled stones in our living room and friends and family are always welcome to take a few. I always leave tumbled rocks in geocaches when out geocaching. Hope to learn wire wrapping so we can make more tumbled rock goodies.

That mail carrier that probably delivered many of the rocks before they were tumbled may appreciate a bag of some your extra tumbled rocks.

Here are the glass vases and jars.... This jar of tumbled rock is very special to me............My Dad tumbled them...I found this vase, its from France (he fought in France, during WWII)... We never knew he was into tumbling or anything for that matter....Found the box of rocks, tumbled rocks and tumbler after he died.. I still have the tumbler,I have all the rocks too.......(a very reserved man, after the war)

I like the idea of using them sort of as currency or for favours/better service. The idea that tumbled rocks are good only for displays frustrates me though. There's *got* to be some further utility for them. Rocks really remind me of an adult's version of Warhammer. I want different 'armies' of rocks and to be able to do something with them. The brain racking continues.

Thanks for all the great replies!
I am moving into a new house right now and plan to have rocks displayed in various manners all over the place! I will also definitely be giving rocks away!

Finally got round to sorting mine tonight. Wife went out so I made a mess! One of the trays my mum and dad picked up for me... Second one. From the packaging I think they are intended at tidies for cosmetics, and usefully have a clear plastic lid to keep the dust out. I might see if I can get more of these. Also have a few glass vases around...

Your beautiful tumbles look awesome in the trays from your parents and vase, iant! hornseeker, have fun moving into your new home! Lookin' forward to seeing how you display your tumbles in your new digs. Most of my tumbles go into our 'rock garden.'

Most of my projects have been stone mosaic. I've made bird baths, picture frames, small table tops, stone bowls, boxes...I need to find my pix or take some new ones... Here's a really easy project, just a tray with a few stones on it... Not a good photo but the cardinals love this birdbath... A picture frame of a young owl I saw in South Africa... I used to do wire wrap but no one I know wears it any longer, when silver was so high, it killed the market since people around here won't wear base metal like pewter, copper, etc...maybe now that silver has crashed making jewelry will come back as a realistic hobby I have used up all of my flattish polished stones except for the translucent ones, which I think will demand a more challenging project, such as a stained glass style of treatment. I haven't really done much with the pebble/rounded ones but I'm thinking of doing something like this (not my photo, I'll have to let you know if it really works)

Oh, a couple more photos I just found. Boxes are easy if you have nice wooden ones: We put little rubber feet on them and everything. I also make bowls which can catch the incoming/outgoing mail. Start with old wooden salad bowls. I have a really nice tabletop I made but can't find the photo for. The test project is this wine rack which looks much better in person! Very dedicated people do intarsia rather than mosaic projects involving grout but I enjoy these easy, low-stress projects. Most of them I made in 2011 when I wasn't working, and they have held up very well!

I'm absolutely going to incorporate my polished rocks into resin to make ornaments and magnets to sell. I've been "playing" and experimenting all summer and fall, but I need to commit to some designs so I actually have something to sell to the summer tourists. Right now my rocks are just in a box, I'm trying to catch up and get all my finds into final polish. They sure do quietly accumulate! And I have several "pet" rocks that are just so cool I couldn't sell them, I'm sure everyone has those.

That might save a step for you?
