Here's my experience with it: JaspeliteThe stuff I sent you isn't as high quality as the stuff in the link above. I wish I could find some like that!

The solid reds are real nice. If you sawed it it would require way less time in the tumbler reducing the undercutting too. My saw cuts with a surface that 500 grit easily cleans. So one day in 500, one in 1000 and then polish if needed. So short runs in fine grits would reduce under cutting. Flat areas like the sawn faces do not under cut as much... Like the bucket of red paint, lots of iron. lots The site was a surprise, that is a big formation.

Ceramic media acts as a grit carrier, filler and cushion. If you have many small rocks in the mix you would not need ceramics. For cabs or slabs you need about 70% ceramics (or pebbles). A speed controlled vibe would be best for softer/fragile stones. Mini Sonic has rheostat. GyRoc has two groove motor pulley for high/low speed choices. I don't think any of the more conventional designs have speed choices. I don't know grit size of powdered tripoli but it works great for pre polish (and polish for some stones).

Yes, the Viking has a mild to harsh adjustment, the eccentric stays the same speed, just more or less out of balance. Not sure if that changes the vibes/second at the hopper or not. The 60-70% filler is what is working on my end. Albeit glass. What I am curious of is can fluorite for instance break aluminum oxide down ? Or is the hard filler doing that ? Wonder if softer tripoli would break down faster ? Other folks mention long run times for obsidian, is that because it takes a long time to break the grit down because obsidian is soft compared to the AO they use ?
