Reserve auctions get more bids. I couldn't possibly disagree more, I can't hit the back button fast enough when I see a reserve price listing. I do spend hours daily "trolling" eBay listings, but I have no time for games. Reserve auctions are also more likely to create a "feeding frenzy". You have seen the offers on an item quadruple (or more) in the last hour of a listing. I believe that a low starting price will better create your "feeding frenzy". And, items jumping in price at the close of an auction is because bidding as late in the auction as you can is the best bidding method. This is commonly called "sniping" and has absolutely nothing to do with a reserve price. A sniper (me) is probably more disinclined to bid on a listing with a reserve price than your average weekend shopper type of eBay user. Personally, I think that snipers are where the money is. Why dissuade them from your auction? If you want to see what an item has been selling for recently, use the Advanced Search feature and check completed listings of similar items.

Reserve auctions are also more likely to create a "feeding frenzy". An item with twenty bids attracts more attention than an item with zero bids. Adding, reserve auctions attract nibblers. A nibbler's motto is: "Bidding is fun!" They can be heard voicing this while swimming around in the shallow end of the gene pool. A listing with twenty bids either has a compulsive nibbler in the bid history or two idjits ping ponging the high bid amount back and forth in minimal increments. Both of these cases may be good for the seller, but it's a foolish way to bid for a buyer.

I've been on eBay since 2001, but haven't been selling in several years, the fees pi$$ me off. I'm not sure what you could see of my bidding habits, if you could, it would be a bunch of zero and one second snipes! My main ID (I have 3 different ones) is captbob2112
IF I have bid more than once in an auction it is because the high bidder has double or triple bid thus "padding" their lead. I will go in there and bid low amounts above the necessary bid to run up their bid as much as I can. I don't do that to win, I'm just evil that way!
