beautiful country, scary looking area around the falls, so rough. Neat materials you brought back. Would be neat to see slabs.... (hint)

(hint) I actually climbed up the set of falls and went back a few more miles i'll be slabbing hopefully soon... still in the process of moving. i'm packing all my rocks and yet new ones keep coming. in 2 weeks i'm going 3x farther back in the mountians for 4 days. This is a vid clip of the area i'll be going to with the guy in the video and others... its 35 miles out from the closest road video

Hi, glennz01! Awesome pics! Cannot see your vid. Do you have to be a tracebook member to view it? Are you moving to your own place?

That didn't have anything to do with your grip on the hammer did it? Was drinking while scrolling your pictures and that was a water out the nose moment - or I would have been having to dry my desk and keyboard off! When does the last of the snow melt where you were -if ever?

When does the last of the snow melt where you were -if ever? nah, the rock is just super hard material... next time we are bringing a 10 lb hammer... or larger usually by august all the snow melts if it is going to what you see is aufeis.

Pretty cool pictures! Your first picture that shows the big agate next to your pick there is a smaller rock laying to the left of it with a pattern/lines in it. Did you bring that one back with you?

Get a chisel with a hand guard and you don't need to worry about busting knuckles. Like this - available at Home Depot or most other hardware stores.

Did you bring that one back with you? yeah I brought that back, its another forum of agate. When I move all my equipment is coming with which means I will be doing lots of cutting and pendant making. As for the chisel i'm realy not worried about hitting my hand... it just doesn't happen. I just wish I had a 3rd hand so I could swing the hammer with more force .

On a much smaller scale, I have a block of wood called Steady Stamp that holds the metal stamp in place, so I can whack it with my small hammer. Fingers feel safer AND it holds the stamp steady where I want it. I bet you could make such a thing on a bigger scale for your chisels.
Good luck!

Like I said i'm not worried about missing The only thing that would be helpful is a device that holds the chisel to the rock so I can use 2 hands on my hammer. next time once the hole is started in the rock enough to hold the chisel free standing i'd be using a 10 lb hammer ... I can't tell you how hard the rocks are
