I find it *SO* sad when people think that "metal=Metallica"... or even worse, that it is always some sort of satanist roaring and that's it. Here are two examples of entire new dimensions that it can reach. If you're not willing to take time, don't even start listening, these songs are long. Blind Guardian's song Nightfall in Middle Earth is a lyrical representation of Tolkien's book Silmarillion. Keep in mind the album was recorded some 5 years before the first movie from the Lord of the Rings series was shot (so it'll be more than 20 years ago now!) This is Haggard's song Awaking the centuries. Some roaring is included for those who think that metal must be roaring! However, you have an entire chamber acoustic orchestra and a couple of trained opera singers with it, too. The lyrics are about Nostradamus who foretold all sorts of catastrophes and then black plague which struck France in the late 1340s. So pretty much just history. Their other songs speak about Galileo, astronomy, discovering America, or just pure fiction. On all albums together their lyrics are in six different languages!
