poem, verse, words to live by...
Now that you've all shared your "entrance song" with us - wait, you haven't shared it yet? Why not? Before continuing, click here to visit that thread, and post your entrance song, then come back here. We'll wait for you.
That's better. Now, where was I? Oh, yeah. I was listening to music this morning (as normal), and the Grateful Dead gave me a wonderful idea for a thread. So this was the inspiration -
"Goddamn, well I declare, have you seen the like? Their wall are built of cannonballs, their motto is "Don't tread on me".
-from the song Uncle John's Band
What is your favorite or most applicable motto?
Since music is a very important part of my life, it figures that my favorite words/thought/quote would be from a song: I'll go with this one, I think it says a lot: "It's not having what you want It's wanting what you've got"
-from "Soak up the Sun" by Sheryl Crow.
Your turn...

Well, I like "Sh*t Happens" especially when addressing whining, no account youngsters complaining about their lot in life like all them little college sh*ts on the telly these days *L*. I'd take way their scholarships and throw them off campus too.
My favorite great uncle used to have some good'uns. He'd say, "Why that gal is prettier than a speckled pup!" I told a gal she were pretty as my horse one time and she got pissed. I'll never understand wimmens. They be crazy!
And if a job went well.... "Well that went slicker than deer guts on a doorknob." *L* I might add that my great uncle was a sheep rancher and avid deer hunter so his observation was probably from direct experience.....Mel

"That which does not kill us, makes us stronger." Friedrich Nietzsche
My mom always said that when we faced some crisis. She was a big time stiff upper lipper.
"Water seeks it's own level."
"A job worth doing, is worth doing well."
Drawing blanks now.... I have a bunch, but they are on the tip of my brain.

You Are Four: - An Old Chinese Proverb
1. He who knows and knows not that he knows.
He is asleep... wake him.
2. He who knows not and knows not that he knows not.
He is a fool... shun him
3. He who knows not and knows that he knows not.
He is a child... teach him.
4. He who knows and knows that he knows.
He is a king... follow him.

I think any mom worth her salt was an advocate of that one! A few more from growing up - Just because Johnny jumps off a bridge, are you going to jump too? Shut that door, were you born in a barn? And one of my favorites - when my mom would put on lipstick, we'd ask her where she was going. She'd reply, "Crazy, wanna come with me?"

Not my favorite expression, but I heard it fairly frequently. Whenever I got into my mom's way [took advantage of every opportunity] she would say "why don't you try to be useful, as well as ornamental".
