These look kind of interesting, I see some swirls or layers or something in some of them, a few splotches of color, etc.,. They seem to be hard...knife scratch left metal on them...didn't look like the rock was scratched. Some kind of flint? Agate? Leverite? Paving material? Much higher resolution images on Flickr, but here are examples... Might be chert. If so, it will tumble well. The chert around here shines up nicely, but there's no pattern so it's pretty boring. The chert I find on the other side of the state is banded so it's much more interesting when tumbled.

Just a guess, but polished they may look like these. These came from within a hundred miles or so of your area.

I'll have to get some in the next load or two and see what they do. Maybe if I get one of my mini-saws going I might try cutting a couple to see what they look like inside...I'm waiting for it to warm up a tad for the tile saw and still got some work to do on the Lortone combo so it might be a while. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the ID. Maybe one of these days I get somewhere that I can find some undomesticated agates. I just gotta focus on the quartz and quartzite more.

Thanks for the feedback, hazeleyes. Interesting. It might be a little while before they get into a tumbler, but we will see.

Thanks for the feedback, hazeleyes. Interesting. It might be a little while before they get into a tumbler, but we will see. As soon as my tumbler gets here I will be putting mine in. As long as I am happy with the end results

John, that's a very, very kind offer. As I mentioned in my pm, I was kidding with you about trading for mud and muck. I certainly won't turn down free rocks, but no need to feel obligated on this, really. I'm finding that folks on the forum are some of the kindest and most sharing folks around. Hopefully I can "pass it on" one day. The best part of your gesture is just that, your kind gesture...anything beyond that is secondary.

Enjoy the new tumbler. What are you getting? Nothing fancy just a Thumler's Tumbler MP-1 Rock Tumbler. I am bidding on a Vintage GEM Stone Skilcraft Rock Tumbler no 924 as well just for glass I find in my creek and smaller stuff.
