Well, being from Ohio hounding is difficult. I mean the finding is difficult. Ohio is full of flint, granite, and Quartz. Digging in my backyard abuot 3foot deep and next to a spring I found some big chucks of flint.( dark red, blue, and grey) I was very happy. Sorry but no pics right now because they have to be cleaned up some. Flint is easy for me because it's so smooth and waxy that dirt doesnt stick much. have a good day.

Ex Ohio boy here too. Spent my pre teen years in Warrensville Hights, SE of Cleveland. Don't give up on hounding Ohio. It was a big & colorful hunk of petrified wood that sparked my interest in rocks. Found it at the old fishing hole about 1/2 mile from my house when I was about 6 years old.

You have Ohio flint in your backyard?! Color me green.
Ohio flint can make some drop dead gorgeous tumbles.
And, the not so pretty pieces can be used for knapping.
win-win!

Was that wood petrified when you were 6 years old Don or did it still have leaves? < ducking! >

Once a Buckeye, always a Buckeye! Then again, once you escape this God forbidden state, be smart enough to never return. I lived in NJ for over 10 years (and I LOVED it), moved back to OH for cost of living reasons. Bad mistake. The rocks I used to find on the Atlantic shore were amazing… now I'm stuck with flammable Lake Erie rocks

Yes,, OHIO flint. Red, grey, black and white. I have tumbled some and they look very good. But how long will that last with no variety. But I need to focus on the good and forget about the bad.

ohio flint highly sought after, dug and traded by native people for centuries, knappers covet it. You have your own brand of treasure there. Ohio also famous for its fossils, some of the best examples in the world. Keep on keeping on! Pictures when you can. watching with interest.

Thank you. But I don't live close to flint ridge so the flint I find is a solid color and I have stumbled into a fossil or 2 and arrowheads. Not bad...could be worse. And it still puts a smile on my face. I use a IPad and I can't post pics I can send emails with pics but can't post them. don't understand but oh well. Have a good day and thanks again.

I'm happy with Flint Ridge. But it is a bit of a drive for us (west of Cleveland). The rocks on the north shore are nothing to brag about.
