Ok, I've got some lowly, old Dells running Windows 7 Pro. I like it. It looks like Microsoft is trying to shove the Windows 10 upgrade on me/us...deadline for the *free upgrade* ends in seven hours.
The consensus is what? Upgrade? Ignore it? Go get drunk (that'd kill me, well at least the next day would)? Vote Democrat?(that'd kill me, too)
So, in the infamous words of Bill O'Reilly...."what say you?". Or something like that...

From the experience I have had with it on my fiend's computer I would not get near 10 Seen a lot of other complaints from people about 10 as well and only 1 person who said they actually like it.

Asked wife unit - computers are her deal at job.
She says check your system resources (whatever that it) to make sure you can even "upgrade" to 10. Says some computers can't support all win 10 requires.
Me... I'm staying away. I hate change.

Here’s what I want to a operating system to do
Find drivers & hardware Run a variety of software Store, manage, find files Allow some customization Connect to the internet protocol efficiently ect…
Win 10 does all that boring stuff really well probably even solidly
But everything is going mobile eventually P.C box will be obsolete especially for home use
so upgrade --don’t pay

Like Ed, I upgraded to Win 10. I've had no major problems with it. I also stay away from Win Edge browser & use Firefox instead.
There are almost weekly updates on Win 10. As they find the bugs, they fix them. Some of the upgrades take a while to load, & you have to shut completely down & restart to install them.

Three machines. One cannot upgrade. oopsit. The other two, flawless. Upgrade and it runs well.... Like XP back in the day.
If you run legacy software from win98 or whatever, then prolly it wont work in Win 10.

Upgraded two days ago and regret the move already! Display drivers became corrupted and I had a helluva time getting to the startup menu to somewhat get the monitor working. I know for a fact that I have created at least half a dozen "restore points" in the past, plus during the upgrade install, it said "Creating restore point". Guess what? No way can you go back to to Windows 7 using a restore point as all you get is the message "No restore point exists!"

Before changing to Win 10, I saved everything from Win 7 on a portable hard drive. If Win 10 had given me major problems it would have been easy to go back.

I use Win 7 on my work laptop Suppose the company won’t upgrade until the support end in 2020 Or we might end up going to Apple which IBM as big interest in at present.
As far as my home PC was concerned I was running XP But I got snookered into buying WIN 8 --explained in a previous post---
That really hurt I liked XP and WIN 8 was all funky
So when Win10 was made available I had no choice but to upgrade
have second computer with Win 7 installed & bootable w/a Linux package. have 3rd P.C. that for some reason I’m thinking of setting up as a server.

so I guess as amy pointed out do you upgrade a WIN 7 machine that still as 4 year support?
hhhhmmm… I'd probably say no
But if you got 2 machines then I say upgrade one them just as an experiment & back up ha ha
although I didn’t back up my win 8 machine I just went for it no computer going to beat the mohs
But Win 7 may be different !

The wife and I both upgraded to windows 1o but had our computer guy do it for us He said a lot of the old stuff has too be removed to make it work well and we had him install the classic shell so it still looks like windows 7 and we can used it like we always did. Seems to work well and be way faster but some features are a bit different looking. Especially takes more steps for me to load pics on photobucket.....Mel

Well, I decided to dive in. I've got three computers that I work with. Two in town at the shop and one here at the house...all old Dell something-another running Win7. I started out with DOS3.x, went through the upgrades, cursed Gates when he killed DOS, moved to Win3something. landed on Win98 for a while (decent), skipped the misc versions until WinXP and was very happy with XP. I forgot about my weather-station laptop...it's still running XP and will continue to run it til' it dies). The idea of the classic shell that Mel mentioned sounds good. I'm curious about something. The instructions/download window says that once downloaded you can begin installation or "schedule" installation for later. I wonder if this means that even after downloading you could schedule the upgrade installation for "never". In other words, you'd have the upgrade if you ever wanted to try it, but you could still stay where you're at if you want to. I still don't like the privacy questions that people seem to talk about... Regardless, I started the "download" here at home last night around 7pm. The little dotted line cirlced went round and round and round and round and...well, you get it. I looked at the computer a few minutes ago (some 12-13 hours later) and the download apparently did stop and I had a whopping 11% downloaded!!!. I don't know if this is attesting to the electric-speed of Centurytel's screaming 1.5Mbps DSL or an overload on Miscreantsoft's servers. Ah well, it's downloading...we will see. After starting the download here at the house I rode over to the shop and started the first computer downloading. This computer is at the old office and is hooked to the internet via cable modem...pretty fast. I watched for a while and all I saw was the spinning dotted circle...I left it doing that. That computer is still up and running this morning being as it's job is running a weather camera of the downtown area and that image is still being updated. I should have gotten Teamviewer running but...I didn't. No biggie. The last computer is over at shop. I clicked the button to start the download but the spinning circle didn't come up...I think it did say that it was starting the download...maybe. I left it on that screen. This computer is also hooked to the internet via cable modem. I left it doing that...we'll see what happens when I get back over there...might be Monday, I'm in no hurry to find out what happened. Ah well, gotta live on the edge sometimes...well, maybe not on that browswer Don mentioned. We will....see. in case this upgrade sucks me into a deep black hole it's been nice knowing ya'll!!!

Just pull your gun and shoot them. hahaha
I switched to 10 shortly after it was available and after the learning curve ended I really like it. Most of it. The only thing I do not like is everything wanting to know where I am and that is something they do not need to know.
If you take a bit of time to get to know it you can set it up just about any way you want it to be. I can slide my cursor to the left of the screen and everything I use pops out and is ready to go and go fast. I have to admit that I have a new HP that came with 10 but I did the upgrade on my last computer and it was a little older and had W 8.1 which is similar to 10.
Patience is the key. Learn how to set it up like you want it and you will have smooth sailing through the swamp. Is that possible? Just don't get bogged down in the blue mud. Jim

Well, well, well. It looks like my home computer (the one I'm on now) did not take the upgrade to Win10. I went through the apparently long download process but when the pop-up window came up to actually do some installing it showed a large amount of Win7 updates ready to install. I see *nothing* pertaining to Win10. Well, I can handle Win7 for another four years...by then, who knows, we may be in a caliphate and computers may be outlawed for the infidels, anyhow. I'm not sure how the other two computers worked out. I do know that one of the computers (the one that the weather-cam works off of) is still up and running, so the attempted update at least didn't make it crash. Not sure about the one at the shop, I think that was the one that didn't look like it was doing anything. Maybe the "deadline" given by Microsoft to "upgrade" by caused lots of folks (like me) to wait until the last minutes...and it swamped there servers. Who knows... I'll post tomorrow about the other two computers. Oh, and there is no icon pertaining to Win10 showing in the lower righthand corner anymore...it's gone.

Weird. I got one of the "Windows Update" notices this morning here on the work computer. With all the "downloading" and "installing" that happened recently that amounted to a big fat ZERO regarding upgrading to Win10 not resulting in anything different on my computer I had written Win10 off as a "no go". Wel, the "update" notice this morning told me that Windows 10 was reserved for me and that I would be notified when it was ready for downloading.
Huh?

I've still got an xp laptop up and running as my weather station server...XP was a fantastic operating system in my view. Looking at it just now it has been up and running for 156 days steadily sending data to my website, Wunderground, PWS, and a few other weather data sites... BeeWeather station status...I'll probably just stick with Win7...all my computers have some age on them and nothing racehorse level so Win7 will most likely die with them.
