Hi Everyone!
My name is Jolene, I am new enthusiast from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I loved my minuscule rock collection as a child and have now decided to take up the hobby again. After attending Calgary's annual Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show hosted by the Calgary Rock and Lapidary Club I realized I wanted to add this back into my life. This time my collection will begin the addition of a tumbler, the equipment I always wanted when younger.
I s"tumbled" (who doesn't love a good pun) along this forum while researching tumbling; I have not even received my Lortone 3lb tumbler in the mail yet but have learned things from the few posts I have perused. I am just beginning to realize just how much information there is for me to glean from this forum! So I have become a member and cannot wait to start my first tumble to show you all my progress and get some pro tips so I can have beautiful outcomes like so many of you do here.
Anyone else from Canada or the Alberta region? I know the CRLC has been putting on an annual show for 57 years so there must be some of their members on this forum.
Any recommended threads for a newbie?
Thanks for reading,
Jolene

Open lid, add rocks, add grit, add water, have fun!
Welcome Jolene. Not from there but have been there. Disappointed that I did not see a moose.

Welcome Jolene, from Mississippi. Be forewarned with knowledge comes a scary need to lick rocks every where you go, become an introvert (other than these guys) and buy to much equipment 😂

Hello from Texas. You are in the right place. There is no 12 step program here. You can't have to many rocks or rock equipment. Sorry there is no treatment for this addiction.

Thank you for all the welcomes! I already feel like my one tumbler won't be sufficient from just reading about other peoples equipment uses. Oh well, I have to start small and dream big! This is also leading me to bone up on my United States geography to see where you all are from.
Geodes4u I am very sorry you didn't get to see a moose! They are adorable; don't feel too bad though I have lived thirty years here and only seen a handful and never up close.

There's such a thing as too much equipment ? NAAAAHHHH Yep....... Naw... 'Cant have too many rocks. or too much equipment... or too much family like we have here. Welcome aboard Jolene.. Relax, sit down, hang on and get ready to have the best set of friends and accomplissses you ever saw. LOtsa Canadiens here. ehh!! and us yanks aren't too bad...grin.. Bottom line... We all love rocks for therapy, gifts, exploring our artistic abilities, curiosity of whats inside that rock and a lot of talented professionals who make money doing what they love and are the best at it. Welcme again..

You pick up on things very quickly. Don't worry about location of people...think of where you can go, who you can go with and get your own beauties and how you can bring out their best and also your best. It sure has made all of us be better, happier, have more wonderful friends and learn a lot of things that fuel all of our present addictions.
