Jim you have such a wealth of knowledge, can't wait to go back this weekend....I hope if the weather is good. On the right hand side a bit further than half way down to that shoal there is a shelf about 120 feet long in the bank with a spring fed hole about 30 feet round. That shelf and that spring hole has some real nice coral. People got smart to all that a few years back and started digging on that shelf. You may see holes. Is that where I saw people had been digging in what appeared to be greyish/white looking clay?

Well, people dig in the clay in various places because the coral in the clay is usually nicer in color. Often more hollows too. The spot above, you could park 8 to 10 cars on this shelf. It is a big shelf. Cleaning ? I use a pressure washer. A good acid that is mild is oxalic acid. It's cheap and comes in a powder. For some reason it works on rocks. soak for days. I usually saw them, then soak them in water and Dawn, and then pressure wash them. Display the sawn side. that's why you need a saw, hard to beat them sawed. You'll love a saw. The guts are where the show is. I'd come down there this weekend but the deers are rutting and hunters make me stay here.(I live with the deers so I am popular now)

Yes yes I need a saw, and a pressure washer, and a tumbler and...and and lol. Deer, I saw 2 on the with. When you are talking "shelf" is it visible above water level? Hmm I've dug in the clay but only found the white looking coral that I don't particularly care for. Hollow I love, sparkly I love.

The trees are girls that dove out of airplanes and got stuck in the mud with their legs stuck in the air.(too many lonely trips)

I just started using flickr so forgive me if I mess up, here is the link. www.flickr.com/photos/152193414@N03/?If that doesn't work then I'm sure one of you will let me know in large font size lolAnd most of it is from With, not all from this past Sunday, I threw in a couple from the Suwannee just for fun. Unfortunately most can fit in the palm of my hand however such beautiful colors and character.

LOL. I am concerned about going on an expedition with Liz. I know for a fact I will have to eat my Wheaties to keep up with her Michael. She is probably about like me, I do push to find the good stuff. Looking at her flickr photos I would say she don't need much help. Well done Liz. Lots of fine corals, you obviously have an eye for finding them. Guessing that spot was a great score for you.

I hate going along, well ok sometimes I do enjoy the peace and quiet. All I can say is I'm not a whiner or quitter even if I fall and break something.

Yep. Most of the ones I know have to do hotels being out of town. Perfect spot to cut loose and have a good time. Even the loudest ones get quiet in pursuit of the coral treasures.

You should see some of those trees. Bad example in that photo. Ya got super model skinny legs, fat bottom girls, joggers, short, tall, long, etc. like I said it gets kinda quiet down there. Grandpa Patrick my man. I showed one to my wife and said it looked like her - did not go over so good baseball sized coral hurling past

A local park.... I've been watching this couple for years. The man in the front has his back to the easy woman behind him. He grows more excited every year.

Welcome aboard, flmermaid744! I see you are already acquainted with a few of our fine Southern Gentlemen. I'm in Virginia, myself- from the land of clay and sand.

OK, since we're all here talking about coral.... Can someone please tell me what is the difference between your pet coral and Tampa Bay agate? Isn't the agate actually coral?

Guessing different chemistry but both similar. The hollow corals in Valdosta and Tampa are what geologists call a pseudomorph. The biologists have a another name for the appendage on the tree lol.
