Jim you have peeked my photography interest again. I Love Your pictures!!! Oh an I can take my โconcealedโ weapon into Mexico. I looked it up ๐ What we need to do is this: Send me down to Zapata Texas and secure a one month/6 week rental on a house during my off time. Maybe thru a real estate agency. I can do it. Make me take a skiff, or somebody bring a boat that will handle 2 foot seas in case of a windy lake like 25 to 50 HP outboard or bigger better. That rocks can be put into. RTH members can come and go over that month. In month's time people can secure time off from work to come. will take some coordination. You need a home base down there. There was camp right on the lake. rough around the edges but good enough for rock hunters. Don't know if he still rents it though. It is on Falcon lake. That guy was brave enough to live there when I went down there a while back... I know rock hunters used to rent it. May be deserted now. Melissa, you can not take the boat to the Mexican side of the lake. As soon as you cross to the Mexican side of the lake the DNR will be all over you. Or when you cross back to the US side. You don't want to go into Mexico at US border crossings. You don't want to fool around in some of the US border towns like Laredo. And you darn sure do not want to fool around in Mexico near the border. And I don't want to be with you in Mexico; you would be a morsel in demand lol. Zapata has no bridge to Mexico. It is safer. Way safer than south Atlanta.

So what Iโm hearing is: Youโll rent a house for a month and every Rockhounder you know is invited except for me... ๐ข ummm Iโm picking up my toys and leaving the sand box I Not your friend any more ๐๐ So this house is on the U.S. side of the lake? Iโd pitch in on that adventure!

I'm pretty sure he is just saying stay the hell away from Mexico.
I'll stick with the Best Western. I like having clean, dry towels every day.
Locals would figure out in a quickness that the rented house is empty every day. Rock hounds have very predictable schedules. Wouldn't want to come back after a day of hounding and find all my stuff gone.
A couple of the right people and the house could work - break-ins aside. One wrong person and the stay turns into a fustercluck. Will stick with motel if I ever go back.
Deer season in full swing down there. No rocks until at least late January. Boat would be a huge plus. More than a couple/few people and the boat becomes item of contention.

I still might call a Zapata real estate agency next time and find out if they have a cheaper longer term rental. I know I could do a month there. Maybe a deer lease camp after hunting season is over would be available. Maid service ? That's Melissa's job. And she can cook for us too. Whilst we are out straining filling buckets of rocks. We will be hungary Melissa ! Yep, one boat may not get it done. It sure would behoove those bass guides to take you and drop you. pick you up in afternoon.

Jim you have peeked my photography interest again. I Love Your pictures!!! Oh an I can take my โconcealedโ weapon into Mexico. I looked it up ๐ Bad information. Carrying a gun into Mexico is a big no no. Don't do it. Mexico FIREARMS PENALTIES: The Department of State warns U.S. citizens against taking any type of firearm or ammunition into Mexico without prior written authorization from the Mexican authorities. Entering Mexico with a firearm, certain types of knives, or even a single round of ammunition is illegal, even if the weapon or ammunition is taken into Mexico unintentionally. The Mexican government strictly enforces laws restricting the entry of firearms and ammunition along all land borders and at airports and seaports. Violations by U.S. citizens have resulted in arrests, convictions, and long prison sentences. www.mexonline.com/mexguns.htm

That was my thinking as well. Maybe go see Robert at the restaurant or talk with the guys at the bait shop about finding a water taxi service. It's not that you aren't man enough to protect her south of the border, it's that you are not enough men to do the job. John Wayne & Clint Eastwood together wouldn't keep the banditos at bay. A SEAL team... maybe. Maid service ? That's Melissa's job. And she can cook for us too. Whilst we are out straining filling buckets of rocks. We will be hungry Melissa ! Can't decide if posting that was extremely brave or stupid Ya do know she has a gun now... Besides, ya left out doing laundry!

Agree with CaptBob, would be better to stay away during Deer season. Besides the extra metal in the air, there is probably a high demand for lodging in the area with the Hunting going on. Of coarse having a number of armed Texans in an area might discourage certain activities.

Now an upland hunt lease may be a fine place to surface collect.

rockpickerforever, I was seriously just picking about that. Iโve been over the boarder a handful of times from Las Cruses, NM with a former boyfriend. It was by no means the touristy area. He was an idiot an had a pretty bad run in one time with their version of police. He decided that them taking his Rolex was a better decision than just giving it to them. They beat the crap out of him, threw him in jail for 3 days an of course kept the watch!

By no means would I ever want to take Food off of my maids table by doing it myself. 2. If yโall eat like me then Heck Yes Iโll cook! Strong coffee for breakfast and lunch. Dinner around 5/5:30. Menu: your choice of microwaveable healthy Steamables, Smoked Ham sandwich with Doritos, Smoked Gouda pimento cheese sandwich with Ruffles original chips and maybe if all is lucky, Iโll actually cook twice a month. โโ๐บ๐บโ๏ธ

I hope it's not too late for you to return that French maid outfit James.
Maybe you can swap it for the naughty nurse uniform.

If you do this in May it's not too hot to rockhound. It will be warm enough for Mel to need to wear a bikini to clean the agates.
