captbob I like the meme will be sending this to a couple of hunter friends. That made my day! As for Christmas spirit ... Exactly 1 year ago today I was diagnosed with cancer, have had chemo then radiation then skin cancer followed by a heart attack (thanks chemo) and now I am recovering from hopefully my last surgery. they will be removing my IV lines Christmas day. In all of this what has encouraged me the most is Phillipians 2: 5-11. the first parts says, have the same attitude as Jesus who although he existed in the exact way that God exists did not consider equality with God a thing to be clung on to but emptied himself taking on the form of a servant (baby Jesus). Before the cruxifiction Jesus was humiliated beyond comprehension just to be born a human. the Christmas carol say "mild he laid his glory by, born that man no more may die" He took the humiliation for us not so we would not physically die but so we could be made spiritually alive. MERRY CHRISTMAS! You have really been through a lot and you have a great attitude! I'm glad to hear that you're doing well. Thank you for sharing.

I used to do the house inside and out. When the kids left home. I gave away 99.9% of my things- keeping the sentimental things the kids made. Well, they came back. But, the grandkids are teenagers. I don't do any decorations now. My grandson, 18, found a long old string of lights and hung it up around the living room. He's a kid at heart. Maybe I'll do a tree this year. Feeling a little guilty.

Putting up decorations creates traditions. Traditions create values. Values define one's worth.

Values are taught in many ways, not ONLY by hanging sparkly lights.

We ended up with a mix of traditional white lights on the spruce trees and garland wrapped front post AND the ghetto laser AND the inflatable. Mommy's plan collided with my youngest son's plan.

Speaking of traditions and values, I started a new Christmas tradition. Tired of getting lounge pants, socks and/or cologne (which I don't even wear) and pretending to be excited about it, so I bought my own gift this year. I will be getting myself a new gun each Christmas from now on. As a matter of fact, this year's was such a good value, I made the practice retroactive to last year. No need for the wife to shop for me. Done and done!

I haven't done a tree for years, and haven't put up any Christmas lights for some time, either. And I don't feel guilty!!! My neighbor across the street has her husband put up lights on the house, before the Thanksgiving turkey has even cooled, lol. Then they have them lit every night until at least March. She is the one I called a 50-something year old kid a while back.
The five-child family to the north of me put this up several weeks ago
I took a pic this morning in the light of day, as it is normally only inflated/lights on when it is dark out. Guess someone forgot to unplug it. Have you ever heard the air pump running on one of these to keep it inflated? The window behind the red-flowering tree aloe on the house next door is my bedroom window, the wall that is behind the telephone pole is where my head is (inside the house) when I sleep.
Hmmm, any wonder why I am a "bah-humbugger?" LOL.
At least we don't have any neighbors that play Christmas muzak over loudspeakers, ha ha. Or have displays such that people come from all over to drive up and down the street every night, leaving trash and cigarette butts in their wake.
Merry Christmas, everyone!!!!!

If you scroll the above picture to the right place, and leave the screen alone for awhile, your front yard gets covered in snowflakes.
Merry Christmas to you as well!

Thanks, captbob! Yeah, snow in SoCal? That's about the only way it's gonna happen here, lol.

We keep it simple but do put up lights, the wife loves Christmas. We had a bad accident 5 years ago and she no longer does a tree, used to take two days, 4000 lights! We're fully decorated inside, just no tree. I don't understand how families with kids don't do anything, yet the old folk like us do! Wow, Win - with a beautiful backdrop like that your "simple" lights are a perfect complement. Beautiful!

Had trouble with the lights this year. The plugs wouldn't work, and one deer leg won't come on. The timer on the giant wreath went wonky, and it comes on at random times -- no matter how you set the clock on it, and the timer, it still comes on at about 4 in the morning and shuts off sometime after I go to work. Never got the lights up at work --now it's 15 degrees Fahrenheit and I have a cold and I don't feel up to it. Never got the upstairs Christmas lights on, or the outside tree, and I'm bummed because I really like the look of them. Our neighbor's decorations consist of a giant falling-down barn, several deceased vehicles, trailers, etc, and some long-dead hanging baskets. Also dogs that stand out in the road every chance they get.
