Looking forward to seeing how this melt turns out, jamesp!
I also liked the pink melt. Somehow I missed that one.

Looking forward to seeing how this melt turns out, jamesp! I also liked the pink melt. Somehow I missed that one. The transparent fluorite scheme and a 100% transparent melt is long over due. I had many requests to do all transparent melts for knapping. Those guys like to hold their knappings up to the sky to photograph them. The feathered thin edges should present a good show for transparency. As mentioned, I have large amounts of transparent glass in 20 colors to do with.

Results. Fluorite colors close to the real thing. Error made, picked orange glass instead of yellow. Hard to tell them apart before melt. Has a bumble bee jasper color scheme instead. And I forgot that the gray glass is very stiff so over half the orange/black/gray melt stayed in the pot. Good, it looks better than the brick glass. Orange/black/grey glass was broken out of pot and further broken/sawed to make to tumble size chunks. These are all 17 to 25 grams. Will tumble down to 10 to 17 grams to make glass 'rocks'. May drill them before tumbling since they are easy to drill and make cool pendant subjects.

It can’t be right for you to have this much fun Mr. Price! Somebody has to do it knave ! Need to weld up some type of new baffles of to pour glass over. Or maybe a sliding board ramp where the glass blob rolls down a ramp and into a brick mold. This kiln has 12 inches of internal height. Enough space to molest the glass before containing it in a mold. I bought an used ceramic kiln for $50 that has 30 inches of internal height to contain more complex baffling systems above the mold. Ripped the ceramic controls out am midstream replacing it with a used glass ramp/hold control unit(a Cadillac 50 amp unit by Sentry 2.0 on EBAY). Could use your skills connecting it. Ceramic kilns can be had cheap, exact same as glass kilns except the controls.

1daveThere is a ton of black and grey glass to melt. A theme like "Runzelbanderung" would be a great(and challenging) target. Having so many 3mm plates of black and grey glass that allows for bunches of pattern experiments. The glass is in 30"x30" plates, 3 mm thick. The stack of grey and black plates must be 20 inches tall. Essentially a 30x30x20 inch block of glass, or 10 cubic feet ! Or 132 bricks 6"x11"x2". The grey has high viscosity melted and the black has low viscosity melted which can assist freaky patterns even more so.

Western rocks are just plain exhilarating to collect. It is like a treasure hunt every step. Used to be creative about getting into trouble miket. Subject matter has gotten much more academic these years. I'd want to learn your bag of tricks just as well. This Fairburn was named after a town in England. S Dakota Fairburn was named because of a creek there, 'burn' is a Scottish word meaning creek. Population only 85 in 2010 census !

“RUNZELBANDERUNG” is what causes Oco Geodes. Is it "RUNZELBANDERUNG" that causes Beekite rings?

Most of us used to get in a lot more trouble I think, jamesp . And some of us still manage to. C'mon out, I'll teach you everything I know- a half day should about cover it! See, I'm learning from you already. Yep, it's huge. Next time we go hounding up that way I'll take some pics of the hot spots in town.
