Thanks for posting about your trip, looking forward to seeing the treasures you collected. Those florescent rocks are pretty darn cool.

Then, we went night hawking Saturday night after a full day of hunting agate.....this time for Syenite/Sodalite (Yooperlite) In 2 hours we had our 25 lbs. It is crazy bright when the black light hits it on the beach, like someone threw down a neon bulb. Lots of other folks had the same idea and the beach was a strange black light wilderness rave. We had gone down around 4 miles and made our way back in the dark, giggling every time one would light uThose was taken later and shows some of them......going to get some new pictures and video later of Syenite/Sodalite and sort down our other rock that aren't even unpacked yet. More to come. I am going back home next week and want to try the black light thing. Will one of those cheap black light flash lights work? What did you use.

If I may.......the use of both long & short wave UV devices is recommended.......:
www.onlinesciencemall.com/products/handheld-short-wave-long-wave-ultra-violet-lamp?variant=5195274321961
www.homesciencetools.com/product/shortwave-ultraviolet-lamp/
www.naturesrainbows.com/fluorescent-mineral-lights
Although very low power wattage, the smaller units work great at close range.....I own the home science handheld......for the money consider the attached.

Thank you all, so glad to share the trip. Mowing is done, laundry is done and starting to sort and take pictures. But, my mind is still here... Neat stuff more tomorrow.

More to come. I am going back home next week and want to try the black light thing. Will one of those cheap black light flash lights work? What did you use. We had 3 types with us, a professional 6 volt LED hand held black light that I paid quite a bit for, another professional hand held 12 volt florescent bulb type and a Harbor Freight LED cheap as heck one I keep in the glove box for field stone. What it came down to was how wide of beam it had at about 5-10 feet in the dark. The 2 flashlight types were the best, with the Harbor Freight one having the best concentrated beam. I would recommend the highest lumen LED flashlight type black light you can get your hands on. We both did the second night with our lights taped to our walking/picking sticks, carrying the light in your hand, you tend to want to bend over as you walk to get it lower to the ground. Gets damn sore after an hour......duct tape and a stick to the rescue!

Now for some rocks, I pick based on the amount of work and end result of any stone, agate or otherwise. Color, hardness and fractures are my cues. My wife picks with a slightly different view, if she likes it, it is a keeper. So, we have a mix of what will be cut, shaped and tumbled with others that will go in her rock gardens. With that said....here was my puzzler agate. Nice orange peel, all the banding is almost a prismatic clear quartz, couple nice banders and a whole "peeler".
