Interesting. I have never actually considered tumbling slabs before. But I think that a lot of the rough edges have been removed fairly well. Things look encouraging. I find it really hard to tumble large flat surfaces in a rotary, myself. But you need to get those rough edges off for certain.
Honestly, I would have used a grinding wheel or a wide grinding blade on those slab pieces to take all of the rough edges off, and then thrown them in a Vibe, in small batches, experimenting with different media and such.
The slab materials that you are tumbling are really great though!
Can't wait to see how this comes along.

I'm just a noob at this, not experienced like the rest of the crowd but I recently slab cut some ptrified wood on my tile saw.
Yeah there was a lot of cut marks but a week in my 6lb Lortone w 40-70 SC and most saw mark were smoothed away.
Next onto the lot-os w some 120-220 SC for three days, 500 AO for two days, 1000 AO then polish.
for just an experiment on my part, the slabs came out great IMO.

Week 3: 500 AO. 1st barrel 2nd barrel 3rd barrel They are on their way to two weeks in polish. I've found that for these 1.5 and 3 lb Lortone barrels that two weeks in polish does a lot better job than one week.

Looking forward to your results. We've tried obsidian a couple times. Polish step seems to expose all the little imperfections that had gone unnoticed.
