Great stuff. Some beautiful stuff for driveway gravel. Can you drive a 10yd load out to eastern Long Island, in your free time?

lunker I love Yellowstone river agate. It seems like I always have a little bit in my batches. They can take a polish like no other. Are you using rotary exclusively? Some look like they are vibe graduates. I think you’re about halfway between me and jasoninsd . Keep thinking about some hounding trips we could do next summer. I’m not sure I’m willing to get in a raft with Jason but I do have some methods of finding those agates passed on to me by old timers.

I don't think anyone in their right mind would get in a raft with me!

jasoninsd. I think the Yellowstone is a little bigger and milder than the Cheyenne.

jasoninsd . I think the Yellowstone is a little bigger and milder than the Cheyenne. If you've never seen the movie "Without a Paddle", you gotta see it! It's freakin' hilarious! Did you mean milder or wilder? LOL - I'm just hoping it would be deeper than 3"! LOL

Lunk, how in the world did I manage to make a smart-alek comment , but I missed making a comment about the tumble! Shame on me!
It never gets old looking at MMA's! They shine like nobody's business...and your polish really does look great! It's pretty cool to see the variety in the MMA's as well!

Montana mossys are so pretty. Is the first one with the kind of metallic half-moon looking inclusions a moss agate? Kind of unusual and fun.

Looking good. I like the ones with a little reddish moss, like this:

Wow! You have access to beautiful material there. That is really cool. If you ever want to try any Texas rock, like petrified wood, Jasper and other interesting rocks (check out my ‘Texas Rocks’ thread in Rock Tumbling Photos), let me know. I like to trade local rocks with folks. I’m moving right now but will be back trading before long.
I’m curious, how long are you running the rocks during the initial course stages? I’ll tumble rocks for six months or longer in course grit, with clean outs and grit recharge every 10-12 days until the rocks look and are shaped how I want. Then, I finish them off in my Ray Tech vibratory tumbler. I use 60/90 SiC in my 3lb barrels and 30/60 in my 17lb barrel.
Rock Shed and Kingsley North carry my favorite brands of grit and polish. I go through more then 10 times as much course grit then I do the others, since the course stage is really the only stage that changes and shapes of the rock. All the following stages are simply erasing scratches from the previous stage until the rock is finally polished. For pre-polish I use 1500 Aluminum Oxide, and .3 micron size AO for the final polish.
