They say that the Restaurant on the Moon has Good Food. But there is No Atmosphere . . . Not to be confused with the Restaurant at the End of the Universe!! I hear the floor show is to die for!!!

Did you know that the Earth does not actually have any Gravity , it Just Sucks . . . That's funny! Living in GA, jamesp will tell you that AL sucks, while people in AL say GA sucks. A little bit of rivalry going on there?? (Football, yes?) I lived in AL for one year in a previous lifetime. Was just south across the river from you, Wooferhound , 20 minutes east of Decatur. Big change of pace from California. And all y'all talk so dang slow. If I spoke that slowly, I'd forget what I was going to say. Oh, wait, I do that anyway. Nevermind! Sounds like you got a great gig there in Rocket City! Congrats!

I have been to the Space Center, one of the software vendors sponsored an evening there in conjunction with a week long conference in Huntsville. Also stayed several extended weeks in Decatur, construction and engineering support at the Champion(not sure who it is now) Paper mill in Courtland. It was a good assignment.

HankRocks, my dad worked in Space Products for General Dynamics here in San Diego for 39 years until he retired (he is 91 now). He went to Huntsville on many business trips. He flew to Rocket City during the time I lived there, rented a car and came and saw me, where I lived, etc. I was there from July 1976 to July 1977. Never went to the Space Center, though. I wonder how much slower the pace is there now, all the changes, 45 years later? It was a nice place to live for a short time, but I was glad to come home! Many years ago, my DH worked for Rohr, in Chula Vista. Using these huge lathes, they cut the o-ring grooves in the mating ends of the Solid Rocket Boosters (SRBs) for the Space Shuttle. He started working there after the Challenger explosion. When the shuttles first started flying again, we and about six or seven of his co-workers drove up to Edwards Air Force base to see the first shuttle landing after Challenger. I think it was STS-26. I took a photo of it as it landed, using a long lens, had enough printed enough for the guys DH worked with, and mailed them and a postage paid return envelope to the crew in Huntsville (I think that's where I sent them), with a letter explaining why I was asking this favor of them. The entire crew signed each one of them, and sent them back! I gave them out to DH's co-workers, they were stoked. Just off the top of my head, one name I recall is Pinky Nelson.

Wooferhound, this island is 30 miles WNW of Huntsville. 9 miles WNW of Athens. On the Elk River. It is loaded with spearheads and interesting chert. Best to go in fall/winter when Lake Wheeler is low 2 to 3 feet. West side of island is best place to find artifacts. It is about 250 feet long. Best to bring a rake to move gravel around where water meets ground/shore. Hadn't been there in 15 years and don't think anyone else knows artifacts are there. Can get to it by kayak/canoe from boat ramp on other side of river. Or park on Sugar Creek Estates Road and drag kayak to water or even walk thru water at low water wearing waders. Distance from Sugar Creek Road is 1/4 mile. Any of the shorelines and other islands/sand bars have artifacts. Best with a boat/kayak. The Elk River Natives made unusually long spearheads and many were flaked diagonally obliquely which is just strange. Congrats on the new job. Sounds more like being paid to have a good time. Probably should not borrow that moon rock. "Thad Roberts stole 101 grams of lunar rocks from a NASA facility while interning with the American space organisation in 2002 to 'have sex on the Moon'. The Moon rocks collected by Apollo astronauts are among the most valuable substances locked up in NASA facility."

Got a Job promotion over the last week. I've been working at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center for almost a year now as a Museum Guide. Was giving Tours and operating a few space-related amusement rides. Have grown to love this job and working with the general public at the museum has been fabulous, discovered a side of myself that I didn't even know I had. I was a Stagehand doing Sound & Lighting for 40 years. I tried to get into the Audio-Visual department at the museum, but they didn't want me. So I applied for the Museum Technician job and got it right straight away. This technician job involves building, maintaining and repairing all forms of exhibits across the entire place. I will even have a chance at some creative LED artwork too. Full-time and great pay with benefits, I am 65 years old now and I have my first Real Job.
