I just love the old advertisements! Remember those days so well. I live about 12 miles from the family that invented that tumbler (Viking). Had a conversation with Earl in 2003. He passed away in 2011. TW Wow, how many more posts do I need before I am no longer new?

Good Morning: Here is an advertisement from Lapidary Journal in 1948. Just happened to find it while reading through this issue. It's just for fun. TW Click Here: www.geodes4u.com/extra4.html

I was a Bob's Rock Shop poster back in the day. But that is gone now (almost). There were others I've tried, but this place has such exceptionally smart and kind people. It is surprising to find this much interest in a hobby whose "heyday" was 40 years ago. Keep it up !! This IS the place to be !

Good Afternoon: I think the 10TSC and the B-12 may be the same thing. I do not guarantee this to be true. You can at least see a picture for a comparison. GO HERE: www.geodes4u.com/extra4.htmlTW

Ok, so I have done a little research on this overload protection. If the motor overheats, the contacts open to shut off the motor. If the motor has manual overload protection, there is a button or switch to push to reset the motor? The prices on the link you provided are really good. Have you done business with them? Thank you for taking the time to help with this. I was unable to find anything much less than $300.00. Very Good !!
Thanks, TW

Congratulations on the Facetron. A very good machine! I have used a Graves for many years. I cut by ear, and it is a solid machine. The stones look good, and it is all I will ever need. The Facetron will give you bells and whistles, which really helps with accuracy. Faceting is my favorite part of the lapidary arts; you will have fun! The only negative part is finding quality rough, that is also affordable. Start with an SRB, then you can do anything!

Thank you for the input, as I trust the advise given by the members here. I usually don't leave the machine when cutting, so will go with the auto overload. Thanks for verifying that the sleeve bearing repair is probably not worth it.
Have a great day, TW

Good Afternoon: My 18" HP slab saw has bearing problems and the motor repair guy says that he can't fix it because the bearing is in a sleeve. Who would do such a repair, or is it better just to buy another 1 hp motor, like the Diamond Pacific tech told me to do? The original had reset overload protection. Is this over-kill? Will a regular 1 hp motor do the job just fine? I am not a motor guy, so looking for any of you who may have had this issue.
Thanks, TW

Yes, rockoonz suggestion is very good. Just take your time and make sure that you have a really good bite on the piece that you are cutting.

DROOL!! My favorite car of all time. My kids ask me every year what I want for Christmas, and every year I tell them the same thing, " a 1956 Chevrolet Belair 2-door Hardtop." And then they laugh.

The Barred Rock breed are very friendly; I had one that would ride on my shoulder while collecting eggs. The Rocks will lay brown eggs. Make sure that is what you want. If you want (white) easter eggs to color, then pick up a few leghorns. I keep mine in pens with wire on the top also, so they can't be plucked by hawks. Timothy

I wouldn't. Just polish the face. That one is worth a few bucks. Timothy

Ah, yes! Gary Green. Have a chunk and couldn't remember the name. Very jealous. . . . . too cold here to cut. The slab saw is hibernating till about April. Timothy

Oh, don't get me going on this one. I manage a medical office, and this healthcare bill will likely close many doctors doors. People will be turned away as services are rationed. Only those 18 to 45 will receive assistance in dire situations. I can't believe so many people are duped to believe that healthcare is free. Nothing is free. This will be the end of our country. The global warming is also a hoax. I listened to the special on American Family Radio last night. Be scared America, be very scared!!!! Then get off your fannies, and call your congressmen, and kindly inform them to stay out of our homes and lives. The preceeding announcement was brought to you by the people of the greatest country on earth, who wish to fight to stop socialism.

Think that's great ! What organization. It sure beats keeping them laying in plastic drawers where they can break off the stick.

I continue to be amazed at the things people are putting in their saws. The only safe choice is food grade mineral oil. I use this on my livestock, and they survive just fine. If you truly want to do this whole thing the right way, that would be to use a respirator when cutting and fan the mist. Cutting outside would also be the safest. Just think before you breathe. Why let the hobby that you enjoy now cause you respiratory (or other)problems later? Timothy
