I have been out and about since the McDermitt trip so this is a little late but better late than never right? This contest is for anyone on the board who didn't get to go to McDermitt, NV this year. I have a MFRB of various types of rocks collected in McDermitt, including Larsonite (Gary green), Purple Cow, petrified wood, agate, and a thunderegg among other assorted rocks. I asked other RTH members who were there to contribute so we could have a contest box. Thank you to catmandewe nowyo Tommy roy free2rockhound for contributing to the box. We figured that Russ (nowyo) drove the farthest to get to McDermitt so the contest is to guess how many miles he estimates that he drove to get there. This isn't an exact science since he tends to wander but we have a number that sounds about right. One guess per forum member, contest ends Friday (June 17. 2016) 8pm Arizona time, winner is the person who guesses the closest to the actual number or the exact number. Good luck! 746

That actually sounds good, I am going crazy right now...lol...My truck is in the shop (should be out today) and i have just six days left to get the place open. Cash register should be here Friday and credit card machine Tuesday, never ran either of them before so i have some fast learning in store for me. shoulda done square on an ipad. Doubles as both register and cc processor and works anywhere ya go! Get square anyways for shows using ur phone. I went with a card chip reader credit card machine and pay 2.39% per transaction with no swipe fee, no monthly fee or annual fee, no cancellation fee, no contract, and will also get a mobile swipe for on the go from them.

Years ago, my favorite restaurant in Long Beach was the "No Name Restaurant" I see what your saying, there is a shop further down the coast called the 'what not shop' that sells just about everything antique and yard sale related. You have an impressive website by the way.

Now that I think about it I don't think it is trade marked. I also regularly see " redneck life", "swamp life", "Disney life", "gun life", ect. Ect. Time for the west coast to get some life! Your definitely right about that, I actually do like the name and I am going to run it by my wife. She is more into the metaphysical which explains the crystals, amethyst, etc...

Here in Florida people have decals on their cars that say "salt life". It is the name of store/restaurant/clothing line. How about a play on that if it is not trade marked. As in "rock life" That actually sounds good, I am going crazy right now...lol...My truck is in the shop (should be out today) and i have just six days left to get the place open. Cash register should be here Friday and credit card machine Tuesday, never ran either of them before so i have some fast learning in store for me.

It's looks too clean and sterile. Seriously u need a corner with dirty gritty rough and a few buckets on younameit or idontknowit for a bargain price. We rock addicts like to look at the purtys and go wow but then we gravitate to the rough and slabs with the idea, should I say hope we can create a master piece!!! Lol...I do have lots of rough that will in bargain bins and will be posting pictures as I get it organised, I will also have tubs with cut slabs for the cabbers out there.

Hi guys, I just got back from checking out a craigslist ad for MHPJ and I wasn't let down.. Figured I'd let you guys know! Here's just some of what I bought (17 pounds total!) He hounded the material himself long before it was closed off to collecting and has a LOT of material in all different sizes. Here's the ad: sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/for/5615438502.html (his pictures are bad, I need to email him to take better ones) his price is $10/lb but when he found out that I was using this material for lapidary purposes and not reselling he knocked $30 off the price for me. He also threw in a baggie of bloodstone rough and a couple big polished stones... Nice guy. If you're interested in going he said that a group was coming this Thursday, so I'd move in quick. Great find indeed, that's going to slab out quite well.

Logan's Gemstone Service Station (For All of Your Lapidary and Crystal Healing Needs) I always think of the word gemstone as a draw. It sure draws me. I just want everybody to know that I sincerely appreciate all of the feedback on this and I apologize that I am just now responding. I have had a long day today I picked two additional display cases that should get my for now since I now have 3 large glass cases. I will use regular shelving and cabinets for the rest. I went to help my friend load a home made 36" saw but it was too big for his trailer which is an 8 footer. This is the biggest 36 I have ever seen with a 220 23 amp 5hp motor. Another friend of ours has a large enough trailer and will help him out, I also wound up purchasing a 16" Nelson slab saw that I will be picking up as well this week. I already have a 16 however this one sounds so good and delivers a nice cut, it was very well taken care of and comes with a brand new Barranca blade. I will be taking that one to the store for the thunderegg cuts since it cuts so quiet and I won't have to worry about the noise bothering the store next door. I also got my Australian opal looked at by a friend of mine who makes jewelry and he was quite impressed. I did not do the finish on these pieces I purchased them quite awhile ago for $600 because I was sure that there was money to be made down the road someday. Of course he advised me to set them for jewelry to maximize profit, rather than selling them loose. He does faceting and silver smithing and is a long time member of the Tualitin Valley Rock Club, his name is Cal for those of you that are local. All in all I would say that today has been a productive day and Again I thank you all for your help...Warm Regards, Sincerely...Mark...ps. I will take pictures this week, I promise ;-)

Not sure how the meta crowd hangs but how about Magic Stone & Lapidary Or Magickstone & Lapidary I like that name and I'm going to run it by my wife "Magic Stone Lapidary Rock Shop"? I have decided that if we choose a name I am going to provide $50.00 of material from our buy it now section in our EBay store.

Which historic region are you? Delake Nelscott Cutler city oceanlake Taft Wecoma beach Cutler City, we are right along hwy 101 in a complex that shares other other shops. The name is called Street Car Village Antique Mall I believe. There is a total of 6 shops that sell various items, one sells books, another sells survival gear, then comics and games. A furniture/garage sale store...I know people who have had shops there in the past and have done well for themselves. You are definitely right on the metaphysical willing to pay more for the same stone, watched my wife do it many times.

I like them natural myself. a carver might do wonders with it. I like to cut or grind the face on those and the sand and polish. The fortification is phenomenal sometimes in material like that, Thanks for sharing...

Not sure if it Will capture the attention of customers. My wife had mentioned something along the lines of Earths Treasures or something and I am sure that name is already established and spoken for. Earths Treasures is a vendor at many of the NW shows. They might be the people who put on the Cascade Locks show. That is most likely where she seen the name as we attend many shows throughout the year here in Oregon.
