I am glad someone likes poached eggs. Never been much on eggs. I guess I am not an Eggistentialist.

Gabbro, sodalite, labradorite are all soft and should be done in a soft load together. Dalmation Jasper is not Jasper it is Dalmationstone. it is softer as well. Rose Quartz, Tigereye and Aventurine are h=7 but they are not tough like the agate and Jaspers, they tend towards chipping & peening. Though in that size tumbler they should be OK to do with the Agates and true jaspers. Were there any minus 1/2" rocks or was your load all the rocks shown? If this is the total load you need either fines or some cushioning like ceramic pellets in the polish, plastic pellets etc.

That's a lot of knives! I don't know enough about them to really comment. However, I did let go of some of my things to the kids before I croaked. I get the benefit of seeing them enjoy the things more than me since they were basically put away. Lucky you! Our kid wants nothing his parent have, especially rocks.

With all the countries around the world printing $$ out of thin air to cover covid costs and loses, maybe they need hard currency worse than we thought. I figure the US will be out robbing piggy banks soon.

MsAli and NDK I think it is really cool that y'all met through RTH. If you make any plans for the future, at some point, I hope we can do something fun on the board for you.
I know that this "Rocky" relationship did not start yesterday( though I am just finding out today). However, I did note that yesterday was the birthday of ARPANET. That is the Govenment project that started the internet in case you did not know. So you could say that your relationship is our tax dollars at work. Which is true from time to time, relationships can be quite taxing. Just be careful it is hard to have a good relationship when your are "stoned" all the time.

I have found that if I put a little soap in the 600 grit and in the polish, I do not have to burnish with soap after the final polish. some of this also depends on how vuggy the rocks are. Normal agates and jaspers that are solid are not the problem.
I have also found that vib tumblers are more forgiving about the stray coarse grit than rotary tumblers. Possibly because they break it down faster.

I have made exactly one sphere. I went to a guys house and he walked me through his process. It took 2 days for 1 sphere. Rough on grinding wheel then finish on a home made single cup setup. I have not had the time to make them when they can be purchased so cheaply. That said special rough that is/has sentimental value you must put a $$ figure on it if you are interested in the business. That price helps the customer determine if it is worth it or not. Figure out how much you want to make an hour and figure the hours it will take and they can take it or leave it. that will help you weed out the lookie-loos vs real customers. Of course I have taken jobs I tried for $30 per hour and ended up at $2 per hour and some jobs are just interesting enough to make you want to do them at any price.

I know with a vaccine there is light at the end of the tunnel. Let's call it hope. This second wave we are in is not due to government failure to act but due to citizens (world wide) deciding they have cabin fever and won't control themselves. They have to party like it is 1999 and spread to everyone around them. Ignoring the consequences. I have not been fearful but I have been careful. 2021 is going to be more of the same as 2020. The logistics of vaccinating 330 million people is complex with each state doing something different. But the real problem is that people need to wait between shots and keep wearing masks and SD and they will need to continue M&SD until some weeks after the second shot. Then there is still a 5-10% chance they can still get it and spread it to others, so to protect others M&SD probably for the whole 2021 year. This is where the Biblical concept of "Love your neighbor as yourself" applies (Churches have not acted like they understand that either).
Sorry for the rant.

jasoninsd Thanks! I realized that I omitted one observation. There is not pretense of "fair" in an atheistic POV because it is random chance that propels life. Fairness by definition assumes God. Not any god in general but a personal God who cares.

Just as a piece of trivia beef tongue can be up to 70% fat. I assume human tongues are similar. Who would think fat was that useful.

Mel from Yuma & Spokane (PrettyGritty) said, "Being that I'm an agnostic, and sort of anti-social due to work, that should tell you how real my cabin fever is." Agnostic definition is - a person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (such as God) is unknown and probably unknowable; broadly : one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god. I read your vent with interest. We have a few things in common. I have worked from home since 2001 when I started working for a computer company. Same "anti-social due to work". I got a call Christmas eve that my Mom who is in a nursing home tested positive for Covid and is now in their isolation ward. She is on Hospice with COPD and has a Do Not Resuscitate and wants no meds except for pain. She has a low survival expectation. It is my job now to lookout for her wishes. I have not been out fossil hunting in a loooooong time. You mentioned many stressors in your life, long hours, sick family, emotionally supporting those around you, covid to name a few. The biggest one is Agnostic see definition above. An atheist says there is no god therefore life is by chance and therefore the value of life is what you make it. Self comes first. The agnostic is in the most untenable position of denial of both god and no god and there by not having access to the comfort of either position. In judeo-christian thinking God is both creator and personal. A personal God is a God that knows and cares and wants to be known. Being God and there by creator of the universe, he knows that if he did not reveal himself to us we could never know about him. We just celebrated Christmas. The whole point of Christmas is that a personal God became like us to tell us about how we can have a relationship with Him. Jeremiah 29:11 ‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.

According to the article, "The only way to relieve yourself of this is to give it back," she said. I know as I get older it is sometimes harder to relieve myself. I never thought of giving away Jade as the solution for that. They could end up with blocks of Jade from all over the world donated by men with aging prostates.

Learn your mineral physical properties, these can be found in most any mineral book or college minerlogy text. A rocks is defined as being composed of 1 or more minerals, If you want to learn about rocks then select a college petrology (study of rocks) textbook. Gemstones are a sub category of these two. Some suggested books: Dana's Manual of Mineralology, Hurlbut, Cornelius S., Jr. Ph. D., ISBN 0-471-42225-8 A Field Guide to Rocks and Minerals, Pough, Frederick H. Rocks and Minerals, A Golden Nature Guide, Zim, Herbert S. <= less technical but drawings are good and info is good beginner guide
If you are an old fart I have heard that the local university will allow you to audit a class with permission. Not sure if it is true but if you could audit (no college credit- No cost) a class on minerology or historical geology these will also help. When I retire I was going to check that out. Distance learning is not good for minerals. you have to touch to study.

ethansco I was not sure what a "Lortone Gem Sparkle 3A NR1" was since it is not in their current catalog. What I found on e-bay is a 40 year old tumbler with that designation. Lortone 3A tumblers have been two different shades of blue in the last 30+ years my original Lortone 3A was indeed a 3A NR1. That was in 1972. they have a greenish paint job. my age estimate is based on the color the tumbler is painted. check out: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1783/4633/t/4/assets/3A_Tumbler_Instructions.pdf?v=1365396662230421983the lortone motor has a fan and there is a pulley built into the fan. It is one piece. On that link it is listed as part H 001-100 Motor Pulley With Fan
