HankRocks Hank I think all that advice is great. But, I think we're almost thinking opposite directions on part of the lapidary vs craft show. A small craft show you might be the only one there with lapidary fridge mags. At a lapidary show there's going to be a lot more competition. Of course you don't need rare, desirable material at the craft show, just something with some nice colors and shine. I tend to not even bring the Bingham Fluorite, Calumet Mine Epidote, the Kilbourne Hole Peridot rock, etc, etc, to a Craft Show. Not a lot of folks will recognize them. One other thing in my favor is using the same venue 4 or 5 times a year. It's an indoor School District facility. Over the past several years I have repeat customers who will ask "do you have any of this, or a bigger piece of that" I can say yes I will be here in 3 weeks. Indoor Shows in the Houston area are almost a must, with our warm weather and rains whenever.

Hope you have a great show. Oops, posted this reply before I read all the thread pages. My bad. Glad you had a good show. As long as you had sales I figure it's a good day.

Good work on the first show! rockbrain your displays look really nice. What did you use for your magnets? Mine were a bit of an afterthought and I just grabbed a small magnetic whiteboard but looking for a better idea for next time. My wife had these metal cut-outs from Hobby Lobby or one of the other Craft supply stores for storing some of her magnetic decorative items. They worked very nicely, I ended up getting a couple extra to store my under-table show spares. I did raise the 3 for price to $11. Is it slabbing, tumble to polish, and stick magnet paper to the back of the polished pieces?

I use the Gel-type super glue to attach the magnets, it does not run everywhere. Otherwise what you said is what I do. I have a 10 inch saw that cuts a lot of my small slabs, mostly previously cut rocks glued to short pieces of 2X4", easy to clamp.

Hey there, rockbrain ! Glad you enjoyed your show experience well enough to plan on doing more.
We just got home from a weekend craft fair on our courthouse square. It was a bit slow. Not uncommon for us at a show where a lot of people are looking for inexpensive stocking-stuffer type items. But it was fun hanging out with some of our club friends.
This show is one where the club pays the booth fee, and the members selling there are there primarily to promote the club. We show people how we have "fun with rocks" just to keep the club name out there in the general public. Nothing like the "big show" our club sponsors each year in August. That is a special event in a 5,000 seat arena where we know the patrons will be coming in specifically for rocks and jewelry. This was five members under a 10x10 tent.
