I wanted to show this piece of Sonora Sunrise, I cabbed it for a slab that rockjunquie sent me. Lots of color- oranges, reds, blues, even purple. A really beautiful stone, even if I couldn't get it to take a superior polish! Thanks for looking

Very beautiful. I like how the shape brings out the patterns.

That's Sonora Sunrise, Mike. It can be tough to polish- if at all. But, I always think the beauty is worth it.

I've been able to get a great polish on some of it, but some of it just doesn't want to polish due to micro orange peel. (undercutting) A light touch on the soft wheels usually helps and take your time with them.

You're becoming a machine Mike! If you can figure out the "light touch"...let me know. I've never been able to figure it out when there's a material that has a tendency to "orange peel"!

I don't know about that, Jason- but I am more willing to try stones that I was nervous about working with the dremel. 🙂 I have noticed that the softer material is way less forgiving...

Very nice looking cab miket! Like Tela said less is more with that material on the wheels. From memory I think the best I ever got some was to take it up to 1200 then touch it on the 3000 and stop. It always seemed to start getting worse the harder I worked it.

miket a lot of soft stones that are difficult to polish will sometimes respond to some Zam on a muslin buff. You can get polishing buffs like these that will fit your Dremel to use with it. Zam is a metal polishing compound that works well on a lot of softer stones (including Turquoise). I've used it plenty of times on softer stuff. It won't stain your stone. Just a little Zam on the buff and then lightly run it over the stone. May be worth a try. The Zam will last you forever.

It's a small stone, but you don't want to breath in the dust from it.
