I finally got around to wrapping my stomatolite cab, and thought I'd share it.
I almost feel funny, other people seem to have a bunch to show at once-
I just have this one wrap to show off.
I think it came out pretty good.
These are a special mechanics pliers that are used to twist up stainless steel wire
that is strung through special drilled bolt heads, to keep them from unscrewing. Aerospace stuff
They work great for twisting wire- you clamp the wire in the bench wise, put the other end in the pliers & lock them,
and then pull the little knurled knob & the pliers spin the wire & twist the wire as tight as you like. I also use them to slightly harden round wire.
Great for wire wrapping AND more importantly to keep your airplane from falling out of the sky
Thanks for looking,
Patty

The cover design sold me, as that is the type of "woven" designs I like.
Ones that (for lack of knowing how to describe it) build out onto each other, if you know what I mean, and are not just completely woven. I'm sure I'm butchering the description of this type of design- but I like it, so that's all that matters.
Now I just need to focus on trying a couple of them.

Beautiful job! It must be loads of fun doing twisted prongs! Thanks rockbrain, truth be told, I told myself to just ignore that it was twisted for the prongs and scrap it if it didn't work, and it worked (much to be surprise). So I guess I was just holding my mouth right
Thanks,
Patty

Patty Well, there's one I don't have. I see it's new. Will you do a review of it, after you have worked out a design or two? I think that would be useful- esp since it is a book for newbies.
I'm not sure what that is called other than weaving. I do know that the heady wraps also build element on element.

I use to belong to a large website that sold jewelry tutorials. I was one of the instructors. I have a slew of tutorials from other artists on all kinds of cool stuff. When the website ended, a bunch of people made the jump to youtube. Oxana is just one of them. I jumped here.

Thanks Tela rockjunquie . Just got a new book and looking forward to now trying some new wire woven designs. Patty That's extremely coincidental! I just finished up my first wrap last night that has a weave incorporated into it (other than the woven bail that I normally do...). I wasn't going to post it until it got a LOS bath...

Nice wrap and cab. Sounds like a cool and versatile tool. The safety pliers, is one my husband had from back when he used to restore British Sports Cars.
It works really well, better than a drill for twisting, IMHO as with a drill I find you can do too much too fast.
I have an old US one, but you can get them pretty inexpensively on Amazon or even Harbor Freight.
I think twisted wire adds something extra nice sometimes

When the website ended, a bunch of people made the jump to youtube. Oxana is just one of them. I jumped here. I also have Sarah Thompson's, "Fine Art Wire Weaving".
It's a great book, BUT she really doesn't use cabs , drilled beads & stones.
And until I feel comfortable enough with a technique, I'm not quite ready to "wing it" just yet adding cabs.
But for WIRE weaving, she is a very talented women & has some nice designs.
She also has a second book (which I don't have) , but again I think it's just more complex WIRE designs, not much or any cabs.
This new book , which I'll be happy to add a review once I try one of the designs, looks at first glance that the projects are nice & clearly explained (we shall see though). But the funny thing is that it's called " First Time Wire Wrapping", but truthfully she goes quite a lot into weaving & woven designs, in the style like the cover photo.
Your second book looks interesting - have to look at that one further.
Have you thought about offering some of your tutorials for sale on the RTH marketplace ?
Seriously, I know I'm not alone when I say that tutorials & books help teach you techniques that you can then jump off & develop your own style. I'd be interested.
And I'm glad you're here

I have one for you Robin on weaving (and everyone actually).
I stumbled on this website awhile ago, it lets you download some books for free.
Here's an interesting one I got , which you might already have since it's a little older.
At 98 pages I just printed it & put it in a binder. I guess I'm old fashioned & like it have it to read at the kitchen table, at my bench, etc (and not just on the computer).
But it's a pdf so you can do what ever you want with it.
I don't have a review on this one yet either, as I only recently got it & as always spread myself a little thin trying to do & digest too many things at once
Thanks again,
Patty

Well then, I look forward to seeing it Jason.

Thanks for the suggestion. No, I'm not planning on selling them anywhere. At this point in my life, selling is done. But, you never know.
