I'm from east Idaho whee we had 4 distinct seasons: June, July, August and Winter. Or stated another way, only 2 seasons: Winter and Road Work. Yet, after living in central California for many years where there was little difference in seasons with the exception of winter rains, I'm enjoying living in north-ecntral Arizona where winters can be chilly but not extreme like the 20 below-zero weather I used deliver newspapers in when I was a kid. It's the driving on ice that really bothers me along with snow tires, chains, scraping windshields and unfreezing door locks not to mention shoveling the white stuff. Here in AZ my experience so far is that the snow has melted quickly and doesn't ice up the highways. Hoping for a continuation of that this coming winter but weather's weather and one can never predict what will happen. Much Like Ohio, We have 4 seasons as well. Winter, Still winter, Still FREAKING WINTER, and Construction. lol

I like seeing who's from where when they vote "like" or "indifferent". It would appear most of them are from places I don't consider to have actual "winters"! LOL Just teasing y'all a bit! For the last several years, I've hated winter more and more. The cold...especially the wet cold gets more difficult to bear every year. The extremely short days do effect people's psyche...and depression is a lot more prevalent during the winter months. When it's only light 8 hours (or less) in an entire day...well...it sucks! LOL RIGHT? I am over hear Laughin seeing people in AZ or Cali or the Pacific NW talk about "Winter", For the record, I have been in ALL of those states in the Traditional "winter months" and I am here to tell you, unless you moved their from somewhere else, yall dont know what "Winter" is lmao. Growning up in Ohio, when we had 15F and 3 feet of Snow on the ground, that is what I called Winter. jasoninsd I am sure you have winter far worse than even I do in Ohio. But im with Jason had to tease yall a bit.

As someone who lived the first 50 years of their life in the Chicago area, I hate it. Especially Chicago winters. They can be miserably brutal and the wind chills from the lake make it even worse. I think Chicago is the coldest place I've ever been. The wind off the lake is absolutely brutal. I'm used to cold winters but I recall walking down a Chicago street one December morning and the wind was so punishing I could only walk a few feet at a time without ducking into a store to warm up a bit for the next attempt. Brrrrrr!

liveoak Yo Patty, I've hiked Mt.Marcy a couple times, stayed at Heart Lake I think. Absolutely love the Adirondacks. Those winters must be something else. They're tough lot in that area...
The old dam is one of my favorite spots to stop and take it in

I guess I should have added that we always traveled even to the supermarket with our Carhartt Arctic suits & Sorell boots in the car-- they were like life jackets in case the car broke down on the way. In the middle of the night, some of those roads were so remote that another car might not come by for hours. You could literally freeze to death.
The Adirondacks are beautiful but the winter is hard.

Winter is pretty mild in South Carolina they do get a little snow north of Columbia toward the mountains on occasion. Last year we got our first measurable snow in years with a whopping 2 inches which melted later that day. I do not wear a coat during the winter here, instead I wear a thick flannel shirt over a t-shirt. We are fixing to make our first fall/winter trip to the coast next week and it is even milder there. Photo from a couple winters back. Edit: our local open air flea market stays open all but two days out of the year

Of all the places I've lived, Rhode Island was the coldest. I spent most of my childhood there. As a kid it was a wonderland. We got a lot of snow. We sledded, skated, threw snowballs, made snowmen and raised general hell until our clothes were stiff and we were frozen. I remember Mom running our hands under cold water to "defrost" them. Back then, I loved it. Now, not so much- though I do like a little fresh snow as long as there are no kids around to track in the ick.

I like a lite winter but much prefer the warmer weather because of breathing problems. My home was Jacksonville, Florida. Jacksonville had mild winters, middle temperature falls and springs and blazing summers with high humidity. Austin is similar but maybe a little colder in the winter. One winter I went home with some college roommates for Christmas and can definitely tell you I don't like snow and ice and froze to death when visiting Canada on this trip.

All of this Winter talk brought a heat wave to Wisconsin. Predicted temps in the low to mid 60's for a week. Very unusual for this time of year. I will take and enjoy it.

I'm a little surprised by the poll results. I figured it would be split between hate and love.
Thanks for participating- it was fun and enlightening.

Winter is a good reprieve from all the people. Summer is heavy traffic and every nut from all over the world. Best part is hearing them order coffee, it’s hilarious. Winter is time to build stuff, shop time is on!

Here, if it snows 3" the city shuts down. No one is used to driving in it.

so I live south of Buffalo, NY. I guess you have seen what we are dealing with right now! I'm at about 30" of snow ( we were on the edge of the band all day and consider ourselves lucky to have escaped with only 30") THankfully my worked closed for yesterday so my wife and I could get the snowblower out of storage (honestly we were in the 70's a week ago lol) I was recently diagnosed with a DVT in my leg, so I'm not moving around as well as I normally do. We have our 1 ton PU loaded with a ton of wood pellets and had the tractor parked in behind it. I could not get the truck started (92 F350 diesel with 254000 miles, she just wouldn't fire) I was able to wiggle the tractor out from behind and scooped a lot of the snow out of the way (we had 2 plus inches of rain last week and with the heavy wet nature of this snow, the bottom 4 inches is pure slush and impossible to move) we dug out the storage trailer and we're able to dig out the snowblower. A little fuel and we were moving snow! We spent 5 hours getting the driveway cleared, and working poop paths for the dogs (miniature Dachshunds). Got up this AM and had to reclear the paths for the dogs as another 6 inches fell. Anyone who has experienced Lake Effect snow events like this can tell you that even a mild storm (less than an inch an hour)is a lot to deal with. At the worst we say 3 inches an hour (some areas saw 5 inches an hour) I normally enjoy the winter as we snowshoe a lot and really like being outdoors, but this year is going to be a struggle as I'm on blood thinners and can't stay warm, I'm gimping all over the place and with the current leg and ankle swelling, trying to navigate through the snow has presented a very exhaustive challenge. My poor wife has had to listen to me complain none stop about my leg and about getting old. I'm ready to pack this whole winter thing away this year.
