The golden/brown ones I didn't notice earlier are likely Honey mushrooms. Ehh for edibles unless your Russian. Don't they drink Vodka instead of water ? |

Yo All I never been around turkeys Let the ribbing begin ha Right by the zoo entrance and, the first critter I visited were the turkeys. I suppose that bird is easy to overlook Butte I liked! iridescence feathers  Then the other day I came across a golden pheasant Well my shakes don’t justice to this magnificent birds hues

Golden Pheasant Butte I’ll visit again When I more stable Ha Ed, a wild turkey can see you blink your eyes at 200 yards away hidden behind branches and leaves. One of the smartest and williest critters in the woods. My buddy shot one and somehow knocked it out. He reached down to pick it up only to have it wake up and slice him to shreds with it's powerful claws. He looked like he had gotten into a knife fight with a Samurai. They appear to run as fast as an ostrich and have powerful legs. With spurs like a rooster. Wild turkeys are also powerful flyers and can become confrontational during mating season. At over 20 pounds and 40 inches tall they are formidable beasts. A domestic turkey is so dumb that it has to be put in a room with the floor covered in thick "egg laying pads" so their eggs won't fall on hard ground and splatter. Their middle name is stupid. Right on James Thanks for the info  I’m real impressed that bird And birds species in general Grackles are less stand offish at the zoo But still human weary Good sense birds ! Mr. Gobbles seems to be really friendly Comes right up to people Although the sign says We Bite So they have a fine mesh screen over the chain link Killer pic of the spur ! |

Cutting a gap in the dam will bring the beavers, but putting the trap in the cut will almost always result in the sticks the beaver is carrying to repair the dam will be in the trap and you will have an educated beaver. The better way is to set blind in the crossover and hope for the best. Also a castor set is leaps and bounds better than the previous sets. Eat those beaver. They are so good you would toss beef to make room for the beaver meat. One caveat though, you have to makw sure to keep the castor off of the meat. It smells good but is really bitter and the only one who likes meat with castor on it is the dog. I know you are an experienced trapper Mark. Ha, I usually get young/dumb beavers moving upstream from a large beaver pond downstream. Maybe one every 3 to 4 years. They are probably not trap smart. This one never had a chance to build a dam so I used a(TS-85) foot trap at the base of a slide into a pond on this one. It was as if she was just visiting to eat the bark off of the bases of the sweet gum trees. So beaver meat is good eating ? I'll keep that in mind but I know my wife will make me cook and eat it away from the house lol. It smells great when you cook it. If you can get her to try it, she will make you get more. |

I am a little late to this party.
There were tons of wild turkeys where I used to live. My fiance and I would often have them cross the road in front of us. He would always try to hit a small one. They made for some great meals.
There are some wild turkeys at my present place. I see/hear them and some were caught by trail cameras.
One day I went out to the barn and there was a dead one that was hit by a car. It was huge.
I harvested lots of feathers from it.
I love to harvest and eat a variety of mushrooms. Morels, oyster, puff balls, button, pheasant back and chicken of the woods.
This past year most of my harvesting was done at the local farm market. They even had lions mane which was new to me. It is great.

It is great. The ferneries in Pierson Florida were all the smaller variety named Osceola turkeys Beth. The town focused on growing ferns for dried flower arrangements and cherished the wild turkeys for removing bugs from their foliage. It was routine to have to wait for a flock of them to cross the road. Some flocks were over 150 in size.
