I agree, looks nothing like barite. Looks like a common chalcedony nodule. I just had to look lol! There are some online references to botryoidal barite formations. Easy way to figure it out would be to do a hardness test. Barite is only 3-3.5 in hardness as where chalcedony is 7.

Chalcedony nodule - locally known as grape agate - it is.
I would also expect some visible traces of barite structure in any kind of psuedomorph. That was the "?" in the original subject line.
Rockoonz - I'm a bonehead sometimes. Of course I meant grape "agate" - not "opal". Opals just always lurk nearby in my head... .
