I am interested in purchasing a vintage propane stove. Does anyone here have a campstove or other propane thing from the 70s and does it fit modern one pound propane bottles??
I know this is a long shot.

Got a picture ? Tom would probably know.
We have an old campstove made by Ashflash & it uses the standard small propane bottles.

Thanks, no I don't. Maybe I can grab a screenshot of something. I don't own it, yet. I really want it, but worry abt the hose and coupler. It's a Century Primus. I have a newish one that I like a lot, but this one is better. Primus kicks a**. (the old ones)

Kind of a standard in the industry. We have a old single burner like that & even a heater.
You only have to worry if you buy some Euro type stove, that uses Gaz canisters.

liveoak Patty -This is the best I can do. It's a car camping stove. We have smaller stoves and a couple even bigger ones. LOL!

I've done some research. Some people say that you need an adapter. Apparently, some people even had a problem with that.
eta I found limited stuff on this model.

Tom agrees, looks like the standard fitting.
When I looked up Century Primus, I found a single burner. But that's obviously a double burner.
I know our old Ashflash we purchased used 30+ years ago & although it could use a paint job at this point, it works perfectly.

You probably already found this place - but here's a forum that might help.
I don't think the issue is it fitting a standard propane tank-
I think the issue is that the hoses go bad (cracked, etc) and since they have the built in control for propane (regulator) people try to fabricate new ones, since you can't just order one.

Yeah- the hose seems to be in perfect condition.
I'm thinking it will work.

Tom says to make sure you test it outdoors with soapy water.
I agree the hose looks in perfect shape (dark black not bleached out) BUT what does the seller say about it ?
You could ask .

I did ask. He doesn't know abt the bottle, but he inspected the hose and says it's pristine.
Yes, definitely light it outside the first time.

I'd go for it if it's a good price. The older stoves are better. We actually went over to a 3 burner Coleman white gas stove
Now that one COOKS !
The worst thing that could happen with the Primus is if/when the hose goes bad you'll have to get hubby to figure out to make a new one.
I'm sure it's not rocket science.
And what a good excuse to go on a camping trip

I think our dual fuel Coleman is a 3 burner, too. But, I would rather have the Primus.
Thanks for your help! Thank Tom for me, too.

That is definitely a fitting for the little disposable bottles. Adaptors for big tanks, if you decide you want to use one, are common and affordable. As an aside, the little disposable bottles are disposable and NOT refillable. There are fittings made to refill them from big tanks, but you are quite literally playing with fire, and explosions, if you use them. The disposable bottles are thin steel compared to tanks.
